Author Topic: New information about Ocala National Forest  (Read 6339 times)

I was sent information about ONF by Marla

I am writing to each of you to advise you that a new five-year closure has
been issued for the area around Forest Roads 75 and 88.

As most of you are aware, this area was previously restricted to motor
vehicle traffic, and that restriction had expired.  This new order, No.
2005-0201, reinstates that restriction effective March 8, 2005 for the
coming five years.  I have attached a copy of the closure order and the
affected area map.

If you have access to an OHV group, please convey this information to that
group.  We appreciate your concern for the forest and willingness to abide
by the closure.

If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ---

Wow!  What a ride!!!!!

That sucks [smiley=Angry.gif], It is getting about time to get rid of the 4 wheelers and get another hobby, Let this state loose all the money from these things with the taxes and fuel and other fees and see what they do then, For an outdoor state it is really making me wanna sell these things or move [smiley=Angry.gif]. sorry just had to vent. The fact that this state is suppose to be opening more places to ride with all this money the state has put aside for the trails and they seem to just keep limiting and closing riding areas. I really hope the Rangers and everyone else reads this

We need one of these large outdoor groups to sue the state again.  Ever since they started collecting these titleing fees more areas have been closed down than opened.  It would definetly make the state think twice about closing areas off and maybe speed up opening areas.  Its just unreal....

Grizz thanks for the info even if it is bad news. Do you have an address, phone, or e-mail to Marla you can post or message me? She seems to have been very good on informing us of what is taking place and I am hoping she can be just as helpful in informing us what we can do to avoid more closures or even get areas like this re-opened to atv use when the order expires. First thing we probably need to do is abide by the new restrictions and not ride that immediate area since it would likely fuel and make a case for other forest closures as we would be viewed as law breakers who cannot respect the forest rules. As sad as I am to see even 1 less acre to ride on luckily this is only one of many areas in the forest so I for one am not even going to think about selling my quad or stop riding. One thing I think it is crucial we focus on and find out is what we can do in the next few years to make sure no more unecessary closures take place.
With all this bad news there is some good as well. If you go to http://www.floridatrailriders.org/articles/Status-OHV_Potential_Sites.pdf  you will see some potential areas as of Jan 2005 that the state has been looking into making off-road vehicle sites. Of course not all these areas will become areas to ride and some have been turned down already but it shows they are looking and some of the areas are in the trail planning stage. Let's hang in there guy's & gal's we are far from done. Remember they all just jealous cause us riders are having all the FUN and we gonna keep at it for a long time to come Grin

This really won't effect most of us nor will it effect the Ida trails. The area in question is just West of Lake Delancy up closer to Rodman. Any routes to the 88 store now will more than likely have to go on the East side of Delancy to get there.

state can't touch or govern ONF rules and regs....someone correct me if I am wrong.

several of us have already come up with a plan. once they shut us down we will get some enduro motorcycles, that way we can go almost everywhere in the forest, even on the numbered roads.

they are just extending the time for the ban that was already in place. those trails weren't that good anyway. we can still go in the direction of the 88 store. for now that is. they did shut down a small section of woods behind the 88 store.

keep in mind, once this trail system is in place (maybe by october) every thing else will be shut down, including the ida trails. so ride while you can.

That is what my cousin did about three years ago and I am seriously considering one. Got rid of the warriors and dirtbikes and bought an enduro bike. His is modded and still preforms very well but he still gets picked on by the rangers.....its just they can't write him any tickets. A bit diffrent riding a 2 wheeler through sugar sand though.  Grin

if i get stuck to riding a 30 mile trail then i'll buy one. the rangers would try to mess with you but your doing nothing wrong so they cant. kinda like the rodman IV ride.
you could alomost ride anywhere in the forest on an enduro. your right about the sugar sand b-man.
