My 14 y.o. son is 5' 10" and wears a size 12 shoe. How about some sort of height/weight/age consideration. He wears all of the safety equipment religiously and handles his Raptor 350 better than adults do! He's done the Seminole Mx and Durhamtown Mx tracks and we'll be ther again from Dec - 26-30th . According to the OEMs, he should be on a 90 cc ATV and at the same time the OEM allows him to ride a 125 cc drit bike. The current OEM recommendations make little sense, unless you've never ridden.
Now i wouldnt say an age/height/weight consideration. That is only a small part of being able to handle ANY atv. Granted it helps allow you to throw the bike around it doesnt mean much with the engine displacement of the atv. I just turned 15 three and a half monthes ago, and riding a 400 since i was 13 i think. Not sure. A lot of the factor that should be taken into consideration is the mental capabilities of the operator. For all i care it could be a 35 year old but if he doesnt know when enough is enough or his limits it will do nothing. The kid may also not know how powerful the machine really is and not respect the power of it. If anything, you should be able to by a vehicle over 90cc either with a test being taken and passed by the operator along with a parental conscent form saying they are allowing there underage son/daughter to operate an ATV over 90cc. Cause there is no way in hell i would fit on a 90cc. This way taking the test the kid didnt just talk their parents into the deal saying oh ill be cautious with the vehicle and ill wear a helmet yada yada yada. Now that wont eliminate all problems, but this way if it does happen to be a death the parents are the ones who took the gamble and signed a paper saying so.
