Well I just bought oil for my Ford Lightning and wondering if I bought the right stuff. Ford says SAE 5W-20 should be used. I bought Amsoil SAE 5W-30. Is this a big diffrence? And I was wondering that the 5W-30 is thicker right? And would be better for my truck.

Ford even came out wth a TSB back @1996 and it spoke of "ballooning" of oil filters if anything heaver than 10w30 was used in these engines, as it would cause the by-pass valve in the oil pump to stick. clearences in these engines are tight and anything that heavy will not give proper lubrication. 5w30 or 5w20 is fine in these engines. I wouldn't go any thicker. -Mark

I already order Amsoil so I'll use Motorcraft on my next Oil Change. Is "TRUST" Oil Filter a good brand cuz I was looking under the truck and found out what kind of oil filter it had. Im guessing that's a cheap oil filter from goodyear. And does GoodYear use crappy oil?

Goodyear is a tire company..... Anyways, since the truck is a FORD, use MOTORCRAFT which would be backed by ford if anything where to fail.

No, they dont "re-cycle/filter it out" whenever I go in for the fastlane, the guy comes from the bays and grabs brand new quarts of oil. Motorcraft to be exact..

you dont need the K&N oil filter. A standard Motorcraft will get the job done. that being said what ever filter you use mack certain that it has an anti Drain Back valve or a silcone flap over the return ports to prevent the oil from draining back to the pan when you turn the truck off. With The engine being and OVer Head cam design it is nice to know that there is oil on the cams and You are not dry starting them. Dont put the amsoil in it.. Go out and buy Motorcraft SAE 5W20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil... Thats straight off the quart I have in my room.

You don't have to use a factory filter. No matter what filter you use it won't change the warranty or anything else.

I like to use Puralator One oil filter and use Mobil 1 5w-20 in my cobra and I spin my motor to 7100 rpms every time I race. Ford filters are good. You don't need the K&N. Just use it this time and get a different one next oil change. I personally don't like Fram filters. -Mark

Something my dad noticed during his 30-40 years as a mechanic…whenever he used different brands of oils throughout the life of his vehicles, the oil would gunk up, you could see it when you removed the oil fill cap. Whenever he used the same brand oil throughout the life of the vehicle, he wouldn't get the gunking, the motor would be clean (assuming regular oil changes). I don't if it was just coincidence, or whether different brands of oil don't mix well (you're never going to get every last ounce of the old oil out during an oil change). Coincidence or not, when I choose an oil to use in my equipment, I stick with that oil as long as I own it.

I have heard of that brand oil on "Trucks TV" They were putting it in a Ford Mustang and they tested the car on a dyno and really gained about 8HP.

WOW, 8 hp just from changing oil? I heard that if you run it with the oil cap off that you'll can 4-5 hp because it allows more air into the oil which keeps it cooler.

its royal PURPLE not blue. royal purple is a really good fully syn. oil. they have diff. oil, tranny oil, engine oil, gear oil. and they reduce friction and heat really well. yes it adds power to the wheels by im proving the drivetrains efficiency so less power is lost between the crankshaft and the wheels. yes it was tested on trucks. no it wasnt in a mustang. it was tested in a ford f250 D. i think and it did add horsepower. heres there website: http://www.rpmoil.com/shop/welcome.html

i started using amsoil diesel oil and mixing some ethynol in 50/50 and now my diesel will smoke the back tires....i don't know if it makes the oil ignite and burn off the piston which gets the friction up higher, makes the engine run hotter and you know when it is hot it is running good....
chuck what ya say? sound like it will void my warranty? awww 98k, who gives a rat's butt about warranty....running her till she just won't stroke no more....
LMFAO....so would it be alright to use straight ethynol or 50/50, I am getting cornfused as a baby in a topless bar.....
