Jeff,
PM triple_r_cycle_ski. He works on them and can probably lead you in the right direction as to which ones are better. He may even know of one for sale.

if you plan on riding in saltwater dont get a seadoo!!!!
All my friends have jet skis and they either have a yamaha or a kawasaki.  None of their skis are ever in the shop and they ride them every weekend.  They also take really good care of them.  After every ride they get flushed washed and they make sure that their engines always have a nice coat of silcon spray on it to keep it from rusting!!

I used to have A SeaDoo GTX.  Never had any problems with it.  I took it in fresh and saltwater.  Just flush it out and wash it when you get home and you should be alright.

i bought my yamaha gp800 new in 99. 150 hrs on motor. just rebuilt carbs and it still hits 60+ with a few mods. its a 2 seater but the yamaha xl1200 is a three and handles like a caddy and is quick. will also pull a skier with 2 people on it. you just cant get jump a 3 seater quite as high Grin also check out yamis four stroke ski's. i'm sure they will last forever. johnny

I met a couple that used to rent them out a while back, they said Yamaha was the best ones they ever had. All the others were in the shop a lot, not the Yamahas. Just trying to help.

thanks guys. this helps a lot.

would the 4 stroke would be less maintenence, and what about the performance? most of my riding would be in the river but i wouldnt rule out a trip to the keys. im actually thinking on 2, one for the wife/kids/friends and one for me. can you get stability and performance at the same time?

john,
thats an awsome pic of you catching some air.

thanks jeff. looks like the fx cruiser or fx high output would be perfect for you. they are both four stroke. cruiser is 140hp. high output 160 hp. and with the new hull design you can fly through rough water. and its true about rental ski's, they all mostly use yamaha. i've ridden kawi and polaris and nothing compares to the stability and handling and comfort of a yamaha. john

lol Grin how could i forget! broken leg in 2 places, torn acl, etc. etc. hey jeff, got an idea Cheesy why dont you take my ski for a spin. its the old style hull but it handles like a dream. the new ones are 1000 times better. since i've mamed myself again and cant do anything till july-august, you can give it a run and see how you like an old 2 seat yamaha. my neighbor already took my quad for a run Grin said it was a blast Tongue johnny

no going half way with you john. when you blow out a leg you go all the way. i'll check prices on the 4 strokes. how much hp does your old 2 seater with the old hull design that flies 15' in the air have?

it has 120hp. but its only a twin with twin carbs. i think the fourstrokes are 3 or 4 cyl. and fuel injected.

What you want is the Sea Doo GTX Limited 2005

215 horsepower @8000RPMs pushing 867 lbs.

That mother flies!!!

Plus it's got GPS and depth gauge.

Did I mention it FLIES?

Definitely don't buy a used one, I speak from experience, I bought a Kawasaki 900 and blew the engine after a month.

Go with the new ones, check for a warranty special.  Last year Yamaha was giving away a 4 year warranty instead of the typical 1 year warranty.

Best advice I can give is to take serious care of your ski, because they're really tempermental. Stay on top of flushing it and familiarize yourself with oil pump maintenance.

Take care of it, and it should take care of you.

Good Luck

V

Hey John can I borrow your ski???  jjamesbar I got a chance to ride the new yamaha four stroke last week it is really nice!!  Pulls out of the hole awesome and is extremely quiet!  Plus the one that I rode had a security system on it that has a couple different settings....you can set it so that no one can start it even if they have the safety cord, you can set it so that it runs normal, and then there is a setting that you could use for your kids where it limits the top speed to like 30 mph.  It was pretty cool!  Definately worth checking out if you are going to get one that your kids will use!!

John let me know about the ski Grin

We've got a GTX limited here. It is really nice it hauls. Got it up to 70, but I don't ride it much. Would rather be out riding in the dirt. BTW is that jet ski air pic real? That is crazy.

Just sayin on the topic of jet skis, my bud was jumping waves at vilano beach. It was a real rough day and he jumped one HUGE wave and in mid air the wave went out and there was nothin but dirt under him. Broke both of his legs and the whole bottom of the jetski. I didn't see it happen but i know he had to have been REALLY HIGH in the air. Just thought i would say that. I really don't know anything about jetskis except for one of our camping buddies has 2 seadoos and they go out almost every weekend and ride and they have never had a prob. They have had them for like 3-4 years. He does take care of them though.
