My friend has a Raptor and I ride it sometimes so I can remind myself how much better my DS feels! His Raptor is no slouch. They are both great machines. They both take quite some abuse. When I compete, I usually see Rator parts along the course. But if I'm not careful, I will be wrapped around a tree. The DS is wider. Parts are harder to get for the DS, too. However, the engine is a 650 Rotax. Very dependable. Infact, BMW uses them in their 650F street bike series.
I get beat by Raptors as much as I beat them. Not in a straight line either. In a straight line, stock for stock, I would win every time. In the woods, the better rider would win.
Finally, the Raptor has reverse. I rarely ever need reverse. There have been times when I wish I had it, though.
If I was to do it again for competing, I would go with neither. If I was to do it again for pleasure, I would pick the DS every time.

The raptor is by far the better machine.  The DS is HUGE, it is way too big.  I have a raptor and my friend has a DS that i ride alot.  The DS may be a little faster, but thats all.  The raptor is better in everything else.  The DS would probably be a lot better if it didnt was sooooo much and was as big.

Z400 All the way Raptor is a big and heavy bike
with little work done on the Z400 you can say bye bye to the Raptors that's on the streets on trails you can be stock and go bye bye. Cool

The bike has nothing to do with speed on the trails. It's the rider.

Not my Raptor; But then again i have extended axle, aarms and Elkas. Also, the 400EX is probably the best handling bike out there (stock). I have one to and on the trails it handles like a dream.

DS is better, more comfortable, better suspended, and a lot more power overall. the only downside is weight and size. Raptor feels to much like a lazymans sport quad. Friend has a DS that hits just under 85 with a K&N, E-series slip-on and Ron Wood Rev eliminator kit. GPS read 79.8 MPH but my friend got to scared to fully top it out.

Luca, when did Arif try to top out his DS, at Ocala?  The raptor isnt like a lazymans sport quad, I remember that before I got my raptor, you wanted one soooooooo bad, now all you talk about them is crap, what is up with that?  I like my raptor, and im sure alot of other people like theirs also.

to say one is better than the other is just plain stupid. and thats the plain truth.
It depends on what you want. All of you that say the Craptor is better have never ridden a DS.
What is better is the rider.
the raptor feels like you are sitting on a 2x4.

Wow ! with a pipe, jet and filter you picked up 10 MPH  Shocked
All I want to know is where in Florida did you find a hill steep enough to do that ? Or was it in the last hurricane ? I am so sick of "mine is faster/better than yours" Pride in your machine is a good thing, but usually taken WAY overboard. If you are between two quads find someone with both and ride them. It doesn't matter what everyone here says. All the info may point in one direction, yet when you buy it you might find you don't like it. For info look at the product reviews in mags and stock info from the manufacturers. Your best bet is compare stock vs. stock. When you start comparing one modded in one way to one modded in another you are going apples to oranges. Almost all machines have tons of mods that will improve them and make them better than stock, but you first have to make sure the core machine is what you want. Someone saying my ________ is great since I put on Elkas, A-arms, pipe, jet etc. means nothing. Pretty much any quad with pipe,jet,A-arms, and Elkas will do what you want and handle well. If you like the stock machine you will love the modded version. If you buy one based on someone's opinion of their modded machine you might end up with a fast, handeling machine that you don't like to ride. Everyone has opinions, there's mine.

If the stock raptor runs 73.6 stock then yea I gained 10 more MPH. By the way, I was only stating facts, not bragging by any means pal. I was not saying mine is faster that anyones. By the way, some bikes are just built better than others (dont know if knew that). You can have two stock Raptors and put the same exact mods on them and one may run faster than the other. Some bikes are better built.

Well said Cain.  These polls always bring out a bunch of IMAO's. I think both of these are good machines and although displacement wise they are the about the same, they are two different concepts.  DS shines more in the open, Raptor in the tighter areas. Both are very good trail quads.

I have a Raptor and love it.  It has some things that could be better.  I've never ridden a DS, but did sit on one at Big Scrub and I did like the seat feel, but it did seem like it was a little to large to cut some of the tight turns in the woods. Having never ridden one, I can't say that is the case, but I like size, weight, power of my Raptor for the type of riding I do.  Top speed can vary from mods and gearing.  Trail speed can vary by rider.  I've read test compares and stock the DS has about a bike length in a 300yd drag.

I really don't see the need to talk S!it about someone else's ride.  But then I guess that would take the fun out of this message board stuff.   Ride Safe, Have Fun

I can add this... based on what happened this weekend, I would rather the Raptor flip over and land on top of me Smiley It is 150lbs lighter!
If you measure the width, it's very minor difference. Like 1"
Oh well , they are both fun no matter what you get.
Once yo get one you will have a totally different set of questions. Like " where do I ride?" [smiley=BrokenHeart.gif]

Well for most of us we try to stay on TOP of our quads Stolen  Grin. the raptor is alot lighter but I personally don't want either using me as a landing pad. Don't let that competitive spirit get ya Stolen. It's better to come in last and intact than letting the testosterone hang out and wear your quad  Grin.
I am still waiting to hook up and ride with you. I am out of school as of the 5th of May but only for a couple of weeks. If you've got any availability let me know.

I'M SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE WITH THEIR RAPTOR GARBAGE. such as people like Justin-Raptor426. He says he rides my bike all the time yet Im pretty sure he only rode it once. This is comming from a kid who says ATV's have ECU's that you can tune. And believes that dogs should sleep under the cover while he is straight up nekid on X-mas morning(true story as told by his g-unit home dog fajha.)(His name is Justin -Raptor426)
