District transportation impacted by Hurricane Katrina

Orange County Public Schools is taking action to prepare for possible interruptions of diesel fuel deliveries as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
Effective September 1, 2005, we have cancelled district transportation for all Night Trips, Weekend Trips and Field Trips until further notice. This includes sports teams traveling to play games. The games are not cancelled but district transportation is.

Parents should also be prepared to provide their own transportation for students to attend school beginning Tuesday, September 6, until the source of fuel supplies is stabilized. You are encouraged to plan ahead, car pool, leave early, have patience and be careful of bicyclists and pedestrians.

Please continue to monitor reports at the OCPS Emergency Information number (407.318.3000), by calling 311, (the Orange County Government Service Center) or monitoring CFN News 13 and other media outlets.

Some people just wont be able to go to school for that reason. Lots of Parents have jobs so they count on the busses to take their kids to and from school. I am willing to bet alot of people just wont show up.

I would ask for a Tax refund, seeing as how you are paying for that. I am in shock

They are still supplying normal bus transportation when it comes to getting kids to and from school... it is just the extra curricular activities that they are having to stop... and frankly I dont blame them. It cost me almost $70 to fill up today, I dont even want to know what busses are paying. Until gas comes back down (someday), I think we are all just going to have to do our best to carpool-walk-bike-etc. Get all our errands done in one trip instead of riding around town 2-3 times a week.... it sucks, but nothing any of us can do Sad

I think it's time to dismantle OPEC and have some good old price wars to compete for business instead of getting together and deciding to rape us for fuel oil. The government really needs to step up and do something. In the times of WWII our country devoted all of its resourced to solve dramatic problems that impacted our ability to fight a war and exist. It's time to devote some resourced now to alternative fuel sources. The hybrid were a long time coming and more needs to be done. with today's technology I believe that there is a lot more that can be done.

My history teacher (big into the schools and what not) says that our fall break will most likely be extended a week because of diesel(fuel) shortages. Which sucks, id love to go and help in the "3rd world country" whether it be shooting a few looters in the head or clean up. They need to shoot a few fuggin thugs and then the others will realize "woahhhh this isnt such a good idea" JUST SHOOT THE SUMB!TCHES!

PS: By looters i mean the ones stealing non necceseties like plasma tv's, dvd's, electronics, etc..........
