Hurricane Katrina

I think we need to keep New Orleans and surrounding area in our prayers. We had 3 hurricanes hit us last year, but none as big as Katrina. At a cat. 5 and 175mph winds with tons of rain, it could very well flood the entire city of New Orleans(below sea level) and I heard 1 report estimating 40,000-60,000 casualties. They are talking weeks to months without power or clean water for some in the area. Just everyone keep them in your prayers.

Not to mention I don’t think there building codes are as stringent as ours are. They have allot of people living in the swamp with no electricity or anything. Those people might not even know that there is a hurricane coming. Oh boy that is going to be a nasty one.

Deff are gonna be in are prayers. My mom was just telling me over lunch about when we went there and i was young how they built a LEVY that was 13 feet tall to prevent storm surges. Well thats not gonna do much go since they are predicting a 15-20 feet storm surge! I think this will be worse than andrew as it is BELOW sea level!

Definitely in my familys thoughts and prayers. Have friends that live 25 miles south of new orleans in the swamp. This is badder than Andrew and that was terrible. Miami is on a limestone, coral ridge. Lousiana is on mud, swamp. In hurricane Katrina there was BIG boats 60 miles inland. A 20 to 25 ft storm surge will be devistating! Please Pray for lives spared, I pray most evacuated and went to higher ground. The levy if overtaken will also be a dam later( will hold the water in) 6 ft below sea level plus 20 ft storm surge is 26 ft of water above the ground, your two story house is underwater. Thier new building codes are strick, but whats to say about 10- 20 yr old houses. 200+ mph gusts , 175 sustained. God please be with these people, they are your people too.

Katrina was a category one when it went through down here and we thought it was pretty bad. Now 100MPH more than it hit us with!!!!! It's just going to rip everything to shreds. I think they should add a level to the current scaling system. Category 6 Beyond oblivion.
