Gery get there early man and bring foggers if you can and a lot of repelant. There is also a place out of black point that is call BOCA CHITA you tie up to the wall and pay the ranger 10 bucks i think and there is running water and bathrooms. Havent been there in awhile may have changed a bit.

Gery, forget about the mosquitos, is the darn sand flies. Boca Chita is alot better they elliot key. no running water at the site only in the bathrooms.  Good luck, hope its a little windy at night it will help. http://www.nps.gov/bisc/ 305-230-1100.

well went out there sunday and it was awesome. ended up going to the north sandbar on elliot key. my family and i had agreat time. will be doing it again a whole lot. gotta tell ya though that blackpoint marina is a zoo on the return. had a line of about 20 boats in the channel to get back and the a-holes which would cut. park officials say its always like this. d@mn.

on the north end of elliot key there is a dock that is called university dock, directly to the north and south are beaches, they are the best ones for day swimming, boca chita is nice, but its abit rougher around there and not as clear. sands cut sand bar is another option, aswell as the sandbar out at stiltsville.

blackpoint is an absolute zoo. In fact, people will bring their coolers and chairs in the afternoons and just watch the a-holes bounce boats off each other..back their cars into the water because they are idiots.  Consider where you are at... South Florida, this place is swarming with idiots.  What's even worse is that you don't need any license to get a boat...anyone with money can be on the water.
But, it's what you have to endure to get out to Elliot Key.
I go out there a lot and it is great. It makes living in South Florida worth it.
