HELP ! 2005 Honda Rancher shift problems

Please Help ! I bought a honda rancher 2 wks ago, and took it out saturday and rode for a few hours . Water mud . And then before we left i started it up and the reverse was Bogging down   . Turned it off started it back up and it didnt want to go out of 1st gear. Shut it down it worked both shifting and reverse . Shut it off and it didnt want to reverse . Please help me . Has anyone had this problem or know anything of it ? ? Thank you
