Here are some links to some info. about the two closest towns and scheduled activities, both are small towns but have great old fashioned small town activities.

http://www.johnsoncountychamber.org/JCChamber/events.html

http://www.damascus.org/

Damascus usually has it's 4th of July celebration on the 3rd. It is awesome held in the town park, live bands food vendors and fireworks. Then you can go to Mountain City foreworks on the 4th and there festivites in their park .

For those wanting a motel, the two closest are the Mountain Empire and the Americourt, try this link:

http://www.johnsoncountychamber.org/JCChamber/chamber/membership/members_current_lodging.html

There are a few good restaurants in town, one of the best in my opinion for breakfast and lunch is the Laural Bloomery Store which is north on 91 from Callalantee ATV, don't drive to fast or you will miss it, it is a country store with a small kitchen and dining area, awesome breakfast, and awesome hamburgers. Of course part of the fun is cooking out.

Those who want a change of pace can try the Virginia Creeper Trail in Damascus. Bicycle ride on the old coal train railroad bed. Several bike vendors are in town and you rent bikes and pay for the shuttle to take you to the top. approximately 22 miles, down hill at slight grade very pretty. Bring drinks and snacks backpack is recommended. (before you ask no motorized vehicles., yeah I thought the same what a nice ride it would be on an atv)

I have a summer place there that has been int he family for years..most folks on the thread were talking about camping at the Callanatee ATV Park.. You can hit their web site and it gives cost....The motels in town vary......most folks were talking about July 4th week or weekend.

Looks like lil moose and I will miss this ride.

I can't ride until at least Aug 16, so he and I will be heading out west soon for 3-4 weeks.

I still have two grandmothers to go see, plus some cousins, then some sites along the way.

Will definitely be ready for next year.
