Looking for a flattrack bike I sold in the 90's PLEASE READ

I sold a 1979 YZ 250 around 1993. I'm not sure if it was a Knight or Champion frame. I do know it was nickel plated. The paint was one of a kind light blue with red flake and a green Viper snake panted on the tank. I can't remeber who I sold it to but I think he was related to the local Tampa flattracker by the last name of parker. If anyone knows about this bike please contact me.

Matt, I know the bike you are talking about. I can assure you that Parker did not end up with it.  You sold the bike to a guy by the name of Rick Goodwin in Tampa.  He raced it maybe once or twice at Orlando, and promptly sold the bike.  No telling where it is now.  I do remember your YZ125. It ended up at Lovengreens Cycle salvage, pitched out in the boneyard.

You have a great memory. If you can still contact Rick maybe I can track it down. Do you still have your flattrack bikes. If you do it would be great to see you riding again with us. I started back about 2 years ago and I'm having the time of my life. I really would love to find the old YZ.

Matt, the last I knew of Rick, he was in Arizona and heavily into Ultralight aircraft flying. He basically took everything he had in one car load. I tried to buy your old bike off of him when I saw his interest fading in it, but we could not come to terms. I do recall the frame had some damage to it on the lower left downtube area, which Rick had repaired by the late Connie Swingle. Connie was partners with Don Garlits for many years and was instrumental in the chassis construction of Garlit's first rear engined Top Fuel dragster. The repairs he made to the Champion were flawless. He was an excellent Tig welder ,on par with any of Champions/Doug Schwerma's welders.


   I would have loved to have gotten ahold of your old bike, especially the Viper ported cylinder that was on it. But when I could not come to terms with Rick, I ended up building my own Champion '79 YZ250.  It ended up in New York, and my Champion 360 just left for Maryland a couple of weeks ago.

     At the last race during practice, my chain came off on the front straight. Once back at the pits, I was able to re install my chain with relative ease and was able to finish the evening race. I carry with me spare master links, pieces of chain all 520 gold. So if you ever need help putting your chain back on your bike.......I am there for you brother!!

yea, yea, yea, All comedian's on here now. If you must know back then we did not have "O" ring chains, at least I didn't, when we cleaned the bike my Dad would make me remove the chain and soak it in Kerosene to clean it.  I will say I have looked at that picture for 20+ years and never noticed it until now. Thanks for pointing that out. FYI, I won 1 or 2 on that bike...

By the way...It's hard to see but if you look at the bicycle leaning on the garage you will notice a #97 front plate on it. Pretty cool huh?

Matt, the Kawasaki leathers have me wondering. Did you ride Kawasaki's at some point?  In '70-'71, my brother had five G31-M Greenstreak 100's.  He made District 35  #23 blue plate expert in the light weight expert class in '71, Central California region. He still has a fairly nice '71 model G31M, along with a modified '70 model with a lowered frame ,Champion rear frame loop and glass.  Even had a G31M road racer at one time.  I think George Babor has it now.

No I never raced a Kawi. We were on a tight budget back then and the Kawi leathers were cheap. I may still have those leathers in the attick. I bet they are stiff enough to stand up on their one by now. Still looking for the bike if anyone knows about it. I just called my Dad and he said there was definitly a chain on the bicycle.
