Its not the the best welder in the world, but Ive gotten pretty good with it. Its the 200 dollar harbor freight 220v welder. I had a craftsman mig welder for years that stopped working so I bought this one. I was skeptical at first. I had to make some changes to the harbor freight one to make it to my liking but its pretty awesome now. like changing the lead to a real one with normal weld tips(from my old craftsman)- easy to do. Added the cart and gas bottle. Just dont like not being able to change the voltage range with a knob control. It has 4 voltage ranges and you have to adjust wire speed accordingly. Its well worth 200bucks.
Ive done a lot of welding with it so far and I like it.

iv got a powermate 70 i got on craigslists for $40, iv gotten so many jobs done with that thing, that welder doesnt owe me a dime. iv got only 2 voltage adjustments and its a flux core wire welder, but i can pull a good looking bead with it.

when i bought a new trans for my truck it had the worste baked on mud id ever seen. i hammered it with brake parts cleener and let it set in there a bit then spent probably an hour or so with a pressure cleaner. it came out really good. brake parts cleaner is the hardest solvent you can get in a can, so its your best bet by far. before after done the same with muddy old engine blocks, always comes out looking nice brake parts cleaner and a pressure cleaner are definitely the best bet for old parts.

def. have to try that. this is what I got done so far with cleaner and a lot of elbow grease. still looks like crap. It is a 28 year old motor. lol couple updates; new carb 6 pack rack that Ive had for about 14 years and been hanging in my garage. I think it fits this thing. wiring harness is cleaned up and in. pegs rust free and painted. front fender mounted. it may look like I have done nothing but the little things take the most time.

you wont get that motor to look good unless you paint it imo. it looks nice and clean, clean enough to throw a coat of glass black on the cylinder and head and maybe paint the case a metallic silver or red. from my experience raw aluminum will just get stained brown, it can be clean and still brown. i had the same problem with a transfer case i was putting in my truck, i cleaned it up real nice but it still looked stained and crappy, a coat of gloss black has it looking nice.
the project is coming along nicely, those rims and tires look pretty slick on their. vht just came out with a line of metallic engine paints that looks really nice, iv been waiting for a project i can try some on. you should look into it for that motor.

This was on another forum I read... I copied and pasted what he wrote... spelling errors and all. "Ive all ways used simple green and what ever else I though would work to clean engine case with ok results but I seen on Smw450R thread he had used some etching spray so I though I would give it a try after some searching I found some at O rielly's Hand's down best stuff for cleanin a motor period. I just sprayed it on and scrubed it with a small wire brush and it cam clean with little offort"

What if you took a scotch pad and scuffed the edges of the fins? Sorta a brushed look to match the mag cover... Just a little touch, might look good and break up the black.
