GPS for ATV's ???

I have a question. What do you guys recommend for a GPS on an ATV? Keep in mind a handle bar mount.

I have an app for the iphone that tracks stats and then provides an overlay for google maps. They also make the app for the Droid. They work great.

If you are looking for a regular GPS, I can't help you. Cheers!!

any hand held gps will work and RAM products make holders to mount them to your handle bars

 I use the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX.   It has a good handle bar mount.
It has a color screen and good receivers.  I can get a signal in the house.
Simple to use and you can down load various maps, tracks, routes .
It supports a 2GB SD card for additional storage.
It works for me.

What are you wanting or should I ask what you want to get out of the use of the GPS?

The reason I ask is that I am doing some test for a new product that operates like a GPS but also gives you all kinds of feedback.  You can even watch your travel in animated 3D.  First person or third person.

This product is more for the use of the trail rider or the racer that travels the same trail or track many times and wants to see their travel in one spot.  Records your speed and how fast you go into corners and out of corners.  Then it overlaps your lines so you know which line is faster.

I bought a Garmin geko back in 04 and ordered a handlebar mount for it on Ebay, It's nothing fancy but it is very simple. Used it for years in Ocala when you could ride anywhere. Still a good thing to have because in emergencies you can always give the coordinates to where you are.

I purchased a Garmin Oregon 550T for several reasons.  It has a built-in camera that geo-tags the photo for up load to Google Earth or Picasa, has maps that include city-street level and optional maps down to 1:24,000 USGS.  The unit is waterproof to 3 feet (in case you drop it in a stream or puddle) and very rugged.  It is very intuitive to use and comes with lots of memory which can be upgraded with an SD card.  The only drawback is price; it's quite expensive (~$600.00) but after using it very extensively in Colorado and Florida, it's worth every penny.

I have the Garmin Oregon 450t. It's the exact same thing as the 550t sans the camera. I already carry a really nice camera with me most of the time and at only 3.2 megapixels on the 550t, I just couldn't justify the added expense.

I really like the unit and have no complaints about it. I totally agree with Diggin. These are intuitive units to use, very rugged and worth every dime. Plus, there's a ton of accessories, mounts, etc. available for the Garmin line. I've had (and still have) three Garmin hand held units and they've all performed flawlessly. You can't go wrong with either model.

I have an Etch-A-Sketch mounted to my atv.  I can draw all sorts of pretty pictures with it and can map out my own trails.  The only problem is that I get lost easily on trails that have a lot of whoops.  All that bouncing around erases any trails that I draw.  They just came out with the Etch-A-Sketch Freestyle that features a freestyle controller that swivels 360 degrees. Now you can draw lines, loops, curves and curly-Qs with ease.  Its very portable and retails for around $15.

Garmin Rino 530, awesome unit.  Color display, waterproof.  Has built NOAA weather radio.
And like the rest of the Rino series, Rino 530 offers a Position Reporting feature so you can send your exact location to other Rino users in your group so they can see your position on the map page. And, because Rino is a standard FRS/GMRS radio, you can use it to communicate with any other conventional FRS/GMRS radios around.  Like the motorola 2-ways.  My riding group has 5 of these units.  Best investment we ever bought for atv and our jeeps.

I have a Garmin eMap which I bought off ebay for $25 with handle bar mount.  It is very basic, water proof and easy to use.  I've had it for 3 years and haven't gotten lost yet....

Its like a Timex... it takes a beating and keeps on ticking.

Where can you ride now that you even need a GPS?  I used to use one a lot in Ocala back in the day while learning my way around. With the new trail system you are so limited that there is no way to get lost.
 Big Cypress is a place where you could use one but I cant think of anywhere else in this state that has a large enough riding area to need one. .
  I've heard at River Ranch people mark their track with beer cans. This works great until some doogooder comes along and picks up you cans and then you have to spend the night in the woods waiting to be rescued.

West Virginia Outlaw Trails.  The best place to ride on the east coast.

No matter which one you go with, GET A GOOD MOUNT FOR IT. I have a Garmin but the mount I have sucks and the location sucks. I am better off putting in my pocket. Mounting hardware and location to mount it is PARAMOUNT.

Not now.  Everyone has migrated from Sport bikes, to Utility quads, and then to RZR's.
We now have 3 RZR's and 3 UTE's in our group.
We  do ride a lot of mud and water mostlly creek crossings.
I see a lot of sport quads up there every time I go.

The Outlaw trials are all the old free trails that are around and between the Hatfield/McCoy trails.
I stay at the Ashland Camp Ground most of the time.  The Ashland CG is located on the HFM Indian Ridge
trial.  About 12-14 miles north is the Pinnacle Creek HFM HFM trails.  I usually ride beteen them and all
around them and across them.
