Where are the ATVs in the X-Games? Why are there no ATVs? They've got dirt bike races, freestyle and even rally cars, but no ATVs? This is an outrage!

Alright, Well over many years now and many questions on lots of freestyle forums and talking to pros about this, It was explained to me that the main reason that it is not in xgames is that atv freestyle is too close to being the same thing as dirtbike freestyle.
That if it was broadcast that ratings would suffer because of this.There has been alot of petitions to include quads but it comes down to executives and their ratings.
I think if they were to include it it would probably be something like the quadcross with the big 4x4's. Which would be a foot in the door if it happened.
My personal opinion is that freestyle quads just isnt commercial enough for the general public. Quad freestylers are a pretty small group. There just isnt as many as in the dirtbike world.This I think makes atv riders unique, from mini atv's to side by sides and everything in between.

I could see that happening. idk if that will ever happen. its not as much of an action sport as freestyle mx and supercross is. i guess rally cars arent that much of an action sport either but it seems like the 4x4 quad stuff is more of a redneck thing. not a so cal type of stuff. they have baja and stuff like that over there so maybe the rally is tied in with that. and the fact that travis does it. that probably had alot to do with it. travis has more pull when it comes to decisions about the x games than anyone. he is like the face of the x games. if they lost him they would lose alot. it would be cool to see atvs but i jut dont see it happening. i hope im wrong though. |

That's a lame reason... I remember when Winter X-games didn't have Skiers compete, just Snowboarders... Now you see ski slope style, super pipe, skierX, big air.... So for someone to say atv and mx are to close to being the same doesn't make sense to me. I've been watching X-games since the begining (I'm sure most of us have) and think there's a few catagories they should trim and a few they should add... Keep it fresh. |
