Kawasaki Teryx

I saw something this weekend that really had me scratching my head.  There was a guy at RR this weekend whose Teryx was on the trailer.  I asked him what the problem was and he said he lost a cylinder; just quit running.  He had to limp back on one cylinder.  This is where it gets strange.  Some time ago, he had wrapped his pipes because he was concerned about melting his plastics.  He also changed the outlet tip of his muffler.  No other mods to machine.  While driving it back in on one cylinder, the muffler turned red hot and the aluminum tip melted!  Anybody ever see anything like that?  My theory was that the unburned fuel coming from the one cylinder was igniting inside the muffler.  It's the only possible scenario I could think of that would create those kinds of temperatures.  What do you think?

The Rhinos are not as fast as the new, bigger, faster , machines out but I have a 04 that I havent had any major trouble with and if I was in the market for a new SxS it would be another Rhino.

The mechs out @ Highlifter were constantly fixing those units. The worst part about them was needing to unbutton all the panels to access simple things like fuel tank,engine compartment etc....The mechanic behind our booth said he would never own one due to this reason of taking too much extra time to do repairs and they weren't nearly as reliable as Rhino's & Razor's. Those boys run there stuff hard out there.

The guy who owned the Teryx said that the difficulty of accessing the rear cylinder was why he didn't stop to figure out why it stopped firing.  He said to access the rear plug requires a lot of time and tools.  It would be a damn shame if this motor was cooked because of poor engineering on Kawasaki's part.

My wife wants a SxS. So, I've been slowly and methodically researching them. All of them. I will probably buy one early next year.

As an owner of two Kawasaki Brute Force 750's, I would really love to buy a Teryx. I think that 750 V-Twin is by far the nicest and most powerful engine in it's class. However, I keep reading more and more bad press and horror stories about the Teryx and it's quirks. While some people seem to love them. I hear so much more about their faults and issues.

If I had to buy one today, I'd travel right down to the Yamaha dealer and leave with a Rhino. EveryoneI've talked to that owns them, loves them. All of the magazines love them. I've personally seen Chillin and the pure hell he puts his through with no so much as a hiccup from it. And when I say hell, I'm talking the roughest stuff you can imagine. Deep water and mud in the Everglades. Pounding miles and miles of whoops at 35 mph in Ocala. Working around the house hauling "stuff". Or, transporting supplies to camp in an overloaded state through the worst conditions possible.

You might be able to buy a faster or slightly more powerful machine. But, I have to believe that Yamaha got it right with the Rhino. That's what will probably end up in my garage.

The cylinder most likely went due to operator error. I have a lot of customers riding out at RR and have them stock without any issues.

   Call me before you buy..... Of course right now the Rhino's can't be sold, but they should be back next month on the showroom. I sell Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Polaris so I have pretty much all the SxSs other than Honda and the tractor companies.  I have some interesting info for you when your ready.

In no way am I saying the Teryx is an inferior piece of equipment.  In fact, every single person I've talked to that owned one (including this gentleman) loves the Teryx.  One of the people I spoke to was a former Rhino owner.  The only negative I've ever heard about the Teryx is access to the rear cylinder in particular and the engine compartment in general.  My personal belief is that the Teryx is probably much smoother than the Rhino and now that it has fuel injection, there's no reason not to want it.  I own a Rhino due to timing and price more than anything else (I found a 2008 700 with only 73 miles on it for $8,000.00).

I prefer my RZR over the rhino anyday of the week.I dont go fast just cruise the mudholes and seem to do way better than the rhino.I do however wish my ride was as smoothe as it is when i am driving the rhino,but when you hit the gas pedal on the yamaha there just isnt anything there.Never ridden a teryx but would love to do so that way ic an compare more.

Only problem with the RZR is the lack of room and storage. You can't haul all the supplies I need to carry in a RZR and the seating is a bit too cramped for my liking.

I agree 100% thats why my next sxs will be somthing I can add a back seat to.
I have an inside scoop on a CFmoto sxs that is identical to a Rhino.It also comes stock with a winch and other goodies and also has a backup pullstarter.I am supposed to Demo one of these soon with my dealer so I will let you know what the outcome is.From what I heard it got realy good revues from the last INDY show and  most parts are compatible with the Rhino.It is also less than 6k out the door.(Like I said wil be demoing it soon and havnt even seen it yet).I will gladly give you guys my opionion on this sxs once I do get a look at it.
