You say it started the truck for a few days??Now it won't start. The starter turns over but the motor won't??I don't understand, the starter is in the truck still? If the starter wont turn over could be a bad bendix, might need to be shimmed(starter)
batt could be weak, check the wires, make certin none are pinched, broken, frayed.Take the starter out bench test it.Most auto parts
places will test them for you.Hope this helps.

if the motor came from a race car it could have used a racing starter motor that may have had a larger gear for use with a smaller flexplate, there are 2 sizes, 158 tooth and 163(i think), stock may be bigger and you may have the smaller one. so if you just went to autozone and got whatever a stock starter is, the gear could be too small to meat up with the ring gear. thats all i can think of until you could provide some better information on your problem exactly, being that its an engine swap, i wouldn't know were to start to track down a problem like that with how little information youv given on the problem.

if it started the truck before and now its not it prolly shoulda been shimmed. pull the starter and look at the gear on the starter and the teeth on the fly wheel. check the gears on both, see if the fly wheel and starter has any bent teeth or bad wear. a friend of mine went through the same thing. the gears were just rounding off because it wasnt shimmed. if the fly wheel is too small, get the right starter which is prolly expensive, or pull the motor and change the fly wheel (prolly more time comsuming but cheaper).
