I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything on here.  How do you get or can you get a title for a bike or quad that you have a bill of sale for?  If you can how?  Also can you register it to go to like croom and such?  Thanks for any info in advance?

Mostly depends on the year it was made and/or the state it came from.

02 and above in Fl were required to have title.

You should be able to go to your tag office with a bill of sale on an 01 or prior model ohv and get a title with no problems with just a bill of sale.

I talked to one place and one lady said that I would have to have all the paper work from the day of original purchase till present.  There is no way on some bikes, if they were sold a couple of times the original paper work is mostly long gone by now.

That is not correct.

I have registered a number of pre 02 bikes and atv's with a single bill of sale.

It is even possible to register a newer ohv without a title, provided that the bill of sale comes from a state that did not require a title prior the year of the bike you are trying to register. Last time I checked, there was 2 states that even now don't require titles, so if your bill of sale comes from there, then no title or Cert of Origin is needed. At least not here in rural Madison County.  Wink

When it comes to OHV most people at the DMV don't have a clue. Here is a link to the information you need.

http://www3.hsmv.state.fl.us/Intranet/dmv/Manuals/DMVProcedures/BTR/tl/TL-44.pdf

Page 10 is where you will find what you are looking for. I would print the whole thing and bring it down there. I would also make sure you have the web address handy so they can look at it. Good Luck!

TRX450R_Racer is right. You need page 10 from the link he added. I just went through this last week on my sons 2001. I have been trying to get it titled since May. I have the cert or origin. I called and they told me what I needed and it worked the forth time I tried. If you bring everyhting that is required and they tell you you can not title it ask them to call their helpdesk to inform them of the proper steps. Some of these employee do not deal with ATVs all the time and they do not know all the rules to get a new title. GOOD LUCK.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. But i need assistance too.

I have an 03 KFX400 i bought from my buddy's dad. He is the original owner of the bike but doesn't know if the title was in his name or is ex wifes. I bought the bike and have a bill of sale. He is too lazy to go about applying for a lost title and doesn't know where the original one is. How do i go about getting a title?
