Does anyone know if you can ride from Big Scrub to Lake Delancy by ATV?  My parents are close to Big Scrub, so it's very convenient to start out there, but I'd like to try riding up to Lake Delancy from there.  If so, anyone have a gps route?

Its possible, but a long ride. I havent done it but I have studied the maps. My kids are too small for that long of a ride.

I figure it's 25-30 miles at least.  My GPS software seems to show trails that run from one to the other, but it's not real clear.

My kids are too young also.  The oldest will be six next month, and after about 20 minutes I start seeing the hand shaking from a sore thumb.

Using topofusion (www.topofusion.com), I have generated a track (.gpx format) that goes from Big Scrub to Delancy West.  It's about 35mi one way.

I don't know if you are hoping on numbered trails, because I have to tried the track yet.

If you want it let me know and I'll email it to you.

Cheers,

David

David,

thanks for the email.  I tried responding to the email, but accidently hit the delete button instead.  I don't know when I'm going to try the trip, but one of these days I will.  Maybe someday we'll hook up and try the ride together.

just gotta be careful because there are big blocks of the forest you can't ride in, like the block that is bordered by 19, 40, 65 and 10 is off limits.

let's see if I can lay that block out,,,,

19 to the East
40 to the South
65 to the West
10 to the North

I think that is Juniper Prarie Wilderness area

This track was drawn using the latest Forest OHV off-limits areas.  It gets a little iffy towards Delancy since the boundaries are not clear.

My bike is plated but I tried to draw the track quad friendly.

I'd like to try it soon and report back.

Cheers,

I think you might have to cross some highways as well.

Is anyone up for trying this?

I think it would be a good GROUP RIDE....but we might need Gas Support

here is the route of last years scout ride. some of the trails south of hwy 40 on the previous map are now (or was) restricted areas. this map is 100% legal. we road 160 miles.

jjamesbar: thanks a million.  I'd like to try it one of these days.  I assume you plotted on gps, any chance I could get a download copy of the track file?  I think i can load most formats into my garmin.

chillin: I was at scrub saturday.  i really wanted to do the group ride, saturday morning - i kept logging in to see if the group was going, but i had my two young boys with me, and i didn't want to leave them with gramma/grampa for the day.  It's hard with two young ones to get away for a long period of time.  as they grow older we'll start bringing them, but for now we're limited to a few hours at a time.

thanks for everyones input

That's an awesome looking ride, how did you handle the gas situation, and what quads were you using?

we gased at the 88 store in the north and near the intersection of 597 & 588 in the south. i have them both identified on the map. we were riding mostly utes but it seems like there were some sport bikes along. sport bikes like the 400ex and the yfz acually burn less fuel than my ute. they are not wound out alot of the time like my ute is.
