how reliable?

are mobil home axles, i need to put a new set of axles under my trailer. i have 2 options 2 new 6000# axles and new tires/rims at about $1000. or i can get a set of mobil home axles with new tires for $250.   whats everbodys experences with this type of axles?

mobilr home axles are very strong but the rims have no inner hub  they attach with lugnut and clips.  i have a tandem axle 7 x14 with a 12" i beam ans diamond tread floor. i pulls straight and u can load her down with lbs.  so i'm a fan but i dont pull it around a whole lot   from job to job  and even less now beens no more jobs around  thanks george bush   the w  means worst ever pres in history

The problem is with the tires. They use a 14.5 in rim. We had a trailer that we used to pull a tug-o war- and sled pull truck on that had those kind of axles. It was fine local but it ALWAYS blew tires when hauling azz on the interstate. Might be fine hauling ATVs on, our trailer was 3600lbs empty and the truck was 8000lbs.

thats what i heaRD a few times, i need to have my mud truck and buggy around and i usually go far.  i see alot of people who are running those axles bring spare parts with them(ie. hubs, berings, tire/rim). i just dont want to waste my money, especially now a days.

My brother has a 14 foot with two mobile home axles and we pulled it to Tennessee twice at 80mph, and to Ga and Okeechobee many times. The first time to Tn. we had a bearing go bad but that could have done that anyways. We should have checked the bearings before we left but didn't. That can happen with any trailer. Its pulls great. My nephew has a 16 ft and his pulls great also. Be sure to keep the bearings greased and the lug nuts tight. Most issues come from people not tightning the lugs together and if you tighten one before the others then the tires will wobble. From my experience they pull great and will haul a good load. The advantage to going will the 6,000 lb axles is that you have good electric brakes and wheels and tires are easier to find. You may check to see if you can find a wrecked one where the axles are good. I found a 24 foot cargo trailer with 7,000 lb axles that was wrecked. I got the whole trailer for $550 and nothing was wrong with it except the cargo portion and it was already taken off, so now I have a 24ft flat trailer. I added plenty of marker lights and tailights and is works great.

thats what i have to used to be a 20ft enclosed trailer but was recked. i put a steel deck on it and its good to go.  then some A hole plowed my trailer and truck on the side of the road while i was changing a blown tire.

Mine was a 24 cargo trailer, so its actually 28' and has 8 lug wheels. It still has plywood as a floor. I need to deck it with 2X12s or 2X10s so that I can haul a car. Its great for the atvs the way it is.

yea they are great i love mine thats why ima fix it. mine has 1/4inch expanded steel deck that makes strapping stuff down soo easy, you should look into it before buying 2x8 or 10's.

Save your money and get something without mobile home hubs and rims. Chillin's right. It's not the best design over time.

You could always look at purchasing a new trailer for aroung $15 or $1600 and do nothing, especially if just the axles are gonna cost you $1,000

i looked around and i found a few for 1500 new but all these cheap ones have really light axles,
