MRSA Question
«
on:

I know a few of you on the site have had this so I wanted to ask for your advice. I was diagnosed this morning with MRSA and currently have two large lesions (hopefully I'll only have these two, lol). The docs gave me an antibiotic to take for the next 10 days and I have to go back to the doc next week to be sure things arent getting worse. I have never in my life experienced such extreme pain and the doctor wouldnt give me anything for pain relief. Aside from drinking myself into oblivion tonight, what else worked well to relieve some of the pain? Asprin, Aleve, and Tylenol have done nothing

LOL, drink it is. I took a couple of darvocets last night and that did absolutely nothing except make me talk alot, lmao. Tonight will be a drinkfest I'm sure - I have only slept for about 6 hours in the last two days. This pain is unlike anything I've ever had before
The doctor pretty much told me I was SOL for pain relief. I have antibiotics for the next 10 days, but if it doesnt clear up she'll have to either give me something stronger or put me in the hospital - oh joy!!!!

My boyfriend and his two ex roommates (along with a couple of thier friends) all had it last year. It's usually a hospital born thing - staf infection thats built up immunity because people dont finish thier antibiotics - but over the last few years has become more common outside of hospitals. The "bug" can stay contagious for years, so I'm assuming it's still in the house somewhere. I'm disinfecting all the furniture this weekend. They had it on thier legs - I wish I was that lucky, lol. All I know, is it better clear up by next Wednesday - otherwise thiey putting my azz in the hospital

I had a really bad infection in May. It took two operations and a week in the Hospital recovering, and two weeks of changing bandages twice a day. I had two holes in my leg right next to my groin. I could fit a golf ball in the one hole.
If the pain persist, you can admit yourself in the hospital. If the Dr. is giving you the "Give the antibiotics a try", go to another hospital. MRSA is nothing to play with...trust me.
They gave me antibiotics, and the next day, I was back in the hospital because the infection spread from a small area 3" round, to my knee. After surgery for about two weeks, you'll be taking Oxycodones 3 at a time every 4 hours and just to change your bandages if it gets bad. If you can get some now, the better you'll be...that's all that works. Over the counter meds will do nothing!!
Good luck, I know your pain.

This is getting to be a real problem amongst children. It is considered a community disease that is passed along by wet towels (around the pools) etc. My son got it a couple summeras ago. In the beginning it breaks out frequently. After several months it comes around less frequent.
It will pass and you will be fine.

Thanks for the tips
I'm hoping I dont have to go the surgery route, but I guess time will tell. I'd post pics, but I'm sure you dont want to see my big red azz, lol. The first one was about 3 inches in diameter and rock solid, but made my entire thiegh swell. It exploded in a little over a week. It's still there, but only about a 1 inch diameter and not sore. After that one "healed" I noticed what I though was a mosquito bite on my dam azz cheek - well, it wasnt a mosquito bite and is now fn huge, lol. The pain today is a little less then yesterday, but still excrutiating... nothing better then trying to sit down, ahahah. I'm crossing my fingers that another one isnt going to surface when this one heals. My mom was talking to her co-worker about it this morning and come to find out his 2 yr old son has it!! I cant imagine how painful/scary it would be for a 2 year old! As for pain meds, I have two Darvys left and seeing how uneffective they were last night I may just have a few drinks so I can sleep, haha. Is it bad when its tempting to take a knife to your bum just to make it feel better? haha

Just keep an eye on it ( well I quess literally that would be hard to do) just kidding... Seriously though if you don't see much results in the next day or two, and it gets bad enough, take yourself to the hospital.. Like you said, hopefully it will get better, and that they gave you some real good antibiotics.. Seems like MRSA starting to show itself again.. It happen last year about the same time, w/the begining of the school year. And yea, for a child that would just be horrible. Let us know how it goes, and feel better....

I am a nursing student & have had a family member diagnosed with MRSA ... I am surprised that the Doc didn't send you to the hospital ASAP ... Honestly if I were you I would go to an ER and see what they have to say b/c the longer they let the MRSA sacs stay the higher the chance of reoccurance is ....
Either way I hope you feel better soon !

Thanks. I almost wished they would have put me in the hospital, at least I could have got some good meds there, lol. The pain finally went away (for the most part) Sunday night. Both spots are still hard, but no longer painful and as far as I can tell, no others are starting. I search myself for mosquito bites at least twice a day now, lol. I stil have a few days of antibiotics left and an appointment in the morning for a checkup. So far so good, I just pray this is the end of it - I dont think I could handle a third week of that mess and pain. **Crossing Fingers**

I hope you don't have to have surgery. Sometimes antibiotics work, but it can come back. That's the scary part.
I would hate to see anyone go through what I went through. It was two weeks of pain and suffering.

Haha, ya, those pictures are burned into my brain now - thats why I came here to ask for suggestions. The antibiotics seem to have worked, but having these 2 hard spots makes me wonder if stuff is still there. I'm going to ask the doctor about that in the morning. I'm hoping the meds took care of it, but if having surgery means I wont have to worry about getting these things every other week - then it'll be worth it (Even though I wont think that for awhile, haha).

Well once you get it, you have it in your system for the rest of your life, but its not going to be active.

The surgery doesn't gaurantee anything. It can still come back. I still have two indentations in my leg where part of my leg rotted away. I feel it every now and then to see if it's swelling again.
If the swelling is still there, ask if you can have more antibiotics just in case. And, if your Dr. has that attitude like," Don't worry about it" then get another Dr....he won't be the one on the table.
On a lighter note, nothing has returned since my operation in May.

Well, the news was good this morning, lol. I did get a few extra days of meds, but other then that everything seems to be healing ok. I'll never look at a "mosquito bite" the same again, haha.

MRSA really sucks! I have had a few of them, but never had to go to the hospital. I just took the meds and kept an eye on them. I noticed that sweating really inflames them too. Just wash your hands and take your meds!
