Life after your first child

This may sound corny but I just want to see if anyone else has had this happen to them.  I have a 9 month old son now (our first) I have never been an emotional person but lately I start getting that lump in my throat or tearing up on everything that is sappy because I somehow relate it to my son.  Example:  Watching some chick flick I find myself feeling ALOT more sympathetic towards people in the movies.  Man... I feel my testosterone slipping away LOL Anyway just wondering what any other fathers have went through.

Here's the one that gets me everytime. I have a bad day, I come home in terrible traffic, I walk in my home (grouchy as hizell) and see my son (5 months old) sitting in his bouncy seat or high chair. He looks at me and grins a toothless grin with his arms out and squeals with excitement for me to pick him up. I pick him up and place him against my chest and he nuzzles his face against me while giggling and grabbing at my shirt.

It melts me like butter and the bad day slips away.

The testosterone will kick back in when you start sharing MAN THINGS with him.  How to build something or working on a car.  In the case of a little girl, I think the testosterone goes into overload when some punk comes to take her on her first date.  For some reason cleaning your gun seems like the proper thing to do.

A friend told me he rather have a boy than a girl... his reason?  He only wants to have to worry about 1 d**k  rather than 50

Welcome to growing up.  You will mature more than you can ever imagine over the coming years.  It's amazing how your outlook on life changes with kids.  I always feel sorry for those that never have children...most will never now what it means to give of yourself without hesitation, and be responsible for a childs every waking moment.  My only regret is that I waited until my 30's to have them-had I known what I was missing, I would have started earlier

We are in the same boat I waited until I was 28.  It was important to me to have my personal life situated.  I wanted him to have a bed and a house to grow up in.  I didn't want to be renting, moving in and out all the time, and maybe sleeping on a couch instead of a his own bed.

It was for me too, and although those are important things, a child could care less about $, the ONLY thing that's important to them at this age is a great mom and dad

   Sniff Sniff Matt...I love it when I'm getting ready to go riding and I bring my quad out and my kids go nuts. My son -almost 2- starts yelling,"Ride, Ride!"
   A couple of days ago I went to pick up my 5 year old Daughter from school. As I was trying to exit the school, I see this car coming doing at least 40mph. 15 mph cones are in the middle of the street. I pull out directly in front of him as if I was a roadblock. He slams on the brakes and is blowing his horn and cussing at me.
   I put the van in park, step out, walk over and picked up a cone, walked over and placed it on the hood of his car. I swear a whole crowd of people started clapping.
   Man did he look stupid having to get out to remove the cone with everyone yelling at him!!

I'm in 10th grade now and the way teens are today (not saying im perfect at all) you need to tell him asap to stay away from drugs...Its horrible here, all the men bathrooms are just one big hotbox. And even when I was in middle school there were Mexicans smoking all sorts of stuff, they we 7th graders! You need to do everything in you're power from day one man...It's getting to be a bad bad world here in high school.

don't you just love the way they smile...so innocent, you can tell they're just thrilled to be alive.

my wife and I swear my oldest had an angel looking over him for the first 6 months.  he would always look up in one corner of the room and get this great big satiated smile like an angel had just tickled his tummy...and of course we would just melt

i feel ya's(all of ya's). it seemed like yesterday my kids were rugrats. enjoy every moment you can with them. i regret now missing many field trips, doctor appointments, bday parties, t ball games, all because of WORK!. well now those days have past and what do i have to show for all those missed events cause of work. not a damn thing. so my advice is enjoy every minute you can, work will still be there tomorrow.

My "little ones" are now 7, 9 and 12 yrs. old. It goes by fast and they keep me BUSY but I love every minute of it.

Just wait till they say dad can i have the keys to the car and by the way i need 20 bucks yes life is great .... Chillins right the time gos by very fast mine are 15 & 16  Enjoy it while you can still pick them up and hold them

awwww, the kids are beautiful!  All the pics.

Two of our three have moved out now.  I thought I would miss them.  They call and come by, so it is all good.  We are enjoying the "us" time now.

 My first girl is 16, my second girl is 5, and my son will be 2 next month. My 5 year old I swear sometimes I forget she's only 5 because she seems so grown up already.

OMG, if that don't bring tears to your eyes, nothing will....  And yes, they are our life, our kids are surely what we live for!!!  Awesome video, surely puts life in perspective, don't it...  Our first year for my son was a very hard year, I don't talk about it, cause even after nine years, it still brings me to tears, and brings back that feeling you just can't or don't want to know....  By the Grace, and miracles of God, my son is a healthy 9 year-old boy, and only has a scar to show the battle.  When people say there is no God, I just look at my son, and know that ain't true.

But having gone through all of that, you know that each and everyday that we get to share with our kids, is a blessing from God.  Always hold each and everyday dear!
