Absolutely. It's your right. Use it.
Think of it this way. If you're in a position where you are being asked hard questions by the authorities, you're likely on thin ice... even if you've done nothing wrong. So, by all means, get your attorney there with you and keep your mouth shut.
Be respectful and polite but, exercise your 5th.

I just didn't realize how lopsided it could be even if you did nothing wrong.

I agree, but for minor infarctions...just tell the truth and talk to the police.

I try to be carefull with the minor "infarctions". They tend to stinck a little more than the major "infarctions"

Sorry, I appologize, I'm a paramedic, and the word infarction is used as a "myocardial infarction" (necrosis or death of cells and tissue) not infraction. And today alone I have typed that word probably 20 times
. I meant infraction.
Point is, if you get pulled over for something minor, just tell the truth. I don't know many cops in broward or palm beach that won't let you off the hook if you tell the truth. They listen to liars ALL DAY so the last thing they want to hear is another one. Just admit to your crime...more times than not if an officer is going to give you a ticket, he's going to know he is writing you one long before you even give him your license, and visa versa.

If you don't realize how "lopsided" a police interview can be, just ask that Atlantic Olympics security guard, the mother of that murdered little girl in Colorado, the first government scientist accused in the anthrax case, the dozens of folks who've been released from prison after DNA evidence proved their innocence, etc, etc, etc,. And, don't be surprised if investigators soon reveal the Border Patrol agent shot dead in Hollywood this week actually provoked that incident? After a traffic disagreement where each exchanged the finger, some witnesses say the agent followed the 65 y.o. man to the post office and confronted him.

Officers deal with dirt who HATE them every day, a little respect goes a very long way. If I told you some of the situations I have walked away from treating them as better than me, you would never even believe it.
Cops are your friend and are there to help you, treat them this way and you can't go wrong.
