Anyone ever do this project?

It is a white 6'x12' with a ramp and side door.  We slept in it at muddigras and it was very comfortable.

Pic here -             http://www.carry-ontrailer.com/product/6x12_CT.htm

I would like to add a small window a/c unit to use it as our cheap "toy hauler".  Hey, I gotta start somewhere.

I have camped in tents for a looooooonnnnggggg time, so this is like a condo on wheels to me.

I can't do a rooftop a/c unit for costs, leak concerns and the necessity to strengthen the support structure there to hold it.

I will INSULATE THE INTERIOR ceiling and walls to hold in the cool air and keep out the heat.

I do not need it to be 68 degrees in there, just take the edge of summer camping off - 78-83 degrees is fine, just can't take the 95-98 heat.

A 6,000 btu window shaker is small and light (6.8 amps- max. amps @ 15), but will it do what I need?  Do I need a larger a/c unit?  It is only 72 sq.ft of space and that unit is rated for 360 sq. ft., I know I am not talking about a normal room.

Where do I mount it- Side without the door?  Front of trailer?   When travelling down the road in a downpour will it leak if I mount it on the front?

Is a little 1850 watt generator big enough?  3,000?  Do I need a 5,000 watt?

HELP, with some advice ANYONE?   Am I whacked?

We had a 13,500 btu on top of our 7x16 horton and it would chill rather nicely on the 95 deg. days. It was a roof a/c, they fit right in the roof vent opening. I was going to use a window unit, but after I talked to a few people I decided to bite the bullet and do it the right way. If you go with a 6000btu a 3500w gen. should be all you need.

They have either the ones that go on the roof or you could cut a hole and put a window a/c in there.  I have seen both the window a/c looks ghetto but hey whatever works

Have a 3000 KW generator now and a 6,000 BTU window unit, gonna go insulate with 3/4" foil faced poly board stuff.

Still not sure where I want to cut my hole in.  I don't want to do it anywhere, but it's gonna happen.

Any advice there?

Yes it looks a little ghetto, but I do not need or care to impress anyone.

The generator is on wheels and will be nice to use at the house in case of a hurricane.

I would put it down low on the tongue. Then it has adequate support.

Maybe on the roof next to your vent and put a duct like one of those vent covers that let you leave the vent open when it rains. Use your imagination.

I would center the holes in between those upper cross members near the center of the trailer. May even want to add a few lengthwise for support. Also placing the genny on the A frame by the tongue seems like a good idea, but if your tow vehicle is a sissy 1/2 ton you may over weigh the tongue & cause it to fishtail. You will want to have a backup plan if this occurs on the road.

That foam insulation glued to the ceiling will help as well. Or if you want to keep it real simple, buy this Wink
