Just heard om the news all south Florida is switching to a 10% blend of ethanol. Some stations are cutting corners & not cleaning tanks propery to do so. Now car dealers say numerous cars are needing repairs due to fouling fuel systems. How will this effect the toys? Is a 10% blend good / bad for Atv's?

I have been wondering the same thing, Bush. I always use Shell and I have noticed lately that the pumps say 10% ethanol. So far my quad runs fine.

Nothing what so ever wrong with ethanol. Not the best fuel in the world...but it makes the gas smell good anyway.

Just got back from Hatfield Mccoy and all the fuel up there was 10% ethanol. We rode over 250 miles on 3 quads over 8 years old with no problems. When i saw the notice about ethanol on the pumps i got nervous but we had zero problems.

The only potential problem with ethanol is it can degrade certain types of rubber, possibly creating fuel supply issues (e.g. premature failure of seals). There is also the problem with ethanol being hydrophilic, meaning it absorbs water. That could potentially cause issues in fuel injectors (accelerated wear) and fuel storage (fuel going stale). Outside of that, at 10%, you're not going to notice much loss at all performance wise.

All fuels will be using a blend of ethanol. The government regulated a chemical in fuel starting feb. 2008, that is the main reason you are seeing the ethanol as the substitute. Yeah, ethanol does suck. Sooner or later the government will find out that they are screwing the country up from the inside out. I could careless if another carabu mates or not. Time to send some wells in Alaska.

Did you notice any difference in your vehicle mileage + or -?

i use 93 octane in my truck 100% of the time, noticed no difference switching from mobil 93 octane power wise, but i spray methanol which makes 116 octane under spray so it wouldn't really make a diff for me...

it take something like 30% more ethanol to burn at its proper air fuel ratio compared to gas, so technically it should give you worse millage, but 10% isn't enough to notice. it sucks you cant just get real fuel anymore, ethanol sucks and ultra low sulfur diesel sucks.

To bad they don't sell pure ethanol. We'd be half way there to making our own vodka!

The truck that we used to get to wv was a cummins so i can't tell you the difference in mileage. It was nice buying diesel for 3.91 instead of the 4.45 that it is today in marathon.
