What are the advantages and disadvantages between them.

Is it worth the 200 extra dollors to get the header as well.

What is a good pipe for my 03 400EX i am looking for low to mid power.

If you are only looking for low to mid range power a slip-on is all you really need.
Check out HMF they make a great pipe at a reasonable price.

the header is only worth it if you are trying to squeeze out every possible amount of horsepower possible, we are talking a fraction of a horsepower. Slip on is good enough in my opinion.

i would go up about 4 sizes if all you are doing is the slip on and work your way down if you are rich.

depends what a real good deal is? I used to have a raptor and bought a ful yoshi exhaust for 150$ and that was a real good deal to me but it really didnt do what I expected it to do. If you can get the head pipe and slip on for the same price somewhere as the slip on by itself then do it. Like I said before you arent going to notice that much of a difference. I would look for a used one on Ebay or such.

I'd have to second this.  I've never heard a complaint with HMF.  Everyone loves their product and how well it performs.

might want to think about getting the quiet core for the HMF... i dont know what they sound like on a 400ex but i have one on my raptor 686 and it will make your ears bleed!!! its rated about 107 db.

but it does have its advantages... my girlfriend is always asking why i never answer her when she's talking to me... i just blame it on hearing loss from the pipe!!!

i've never heard a bad thing about them... plus they have the disks so you can fine tune the power.

Remove the head pipe and look inside to see if there is a heavy weld bead where the mounting flange is welded to the pipe. The bead can be grinded down to increase air flow. Some pipes have heavy beads on them and this will cause air flow restrictions. You should rejet when increasing air flow.
