does anyone know what happened?   i went there saturday to ride and there was a land natzi telling us to go or we will be arrested.   she claimed to own property.   who screwed it up for the rest of us?   what was strange is i just left the grant atv dealer (picking up an oil filter) and the girl at the counter was saying she ll be out there later in the afternoon.   any info on what happened would be appreciated.

This property has been posted, No Tresspassing. It is being closely monitored by the Sheriff's dept and all the residents surrounding the land. 4 arrested so far. People raising hell caused this. Angry Guess I'm back to Hollow Paw.

Grant is now shut down by the land owners. They got together with the higher ups in the county and are putting gates up everywhere. They are prosecuting now and unless you own land you are not allowed in there any more. All access trails are being blocked. Was out there today. Shame, great place to ride. Too many idiots ruining it for the rest of us that take care of the place. Another great place down the tube.... People can't keep leaving trash, cars, car parts, fires burning, shooting guns all night when people are trying to sleep, running trucks with open headers all night, etc. I am friends with a couple of the landowners, and I do understand why they are upset. You buy a place in hopes of a peacefull place to live, quiet, able to hunt in your backyard, and you have to put up with people who don't give a damn about anyone but themselves.

I agree. I have seen the hunting camps, but I have also helped clean up after people that dump trash after camping on the ground when there is a can 50 feet away. It is definately one of the cleanest places I've seen to ride, but that is mainly because of people cleaning up after other people that don't. I agree that some of the people that are closing it down really don't have a legitimate reason, but the landowners I talked to all say the same things, loud trucks all night, and guns seem to scare them the most. If more people would use their head, and keep it down a little after midnight, this would probably not have happened. Also, the sheriff I talked to said that they had a shooting out there last year that killed a teenage boy. That kind of started the ball rolling. I have been riding Grant for years, and I have three small kids that love to go there, I would like to see them enjoy it as much as I did when I was young.

I hear someone is putting cattle out there. If that is true, now it's a felony trespass. All I can say is I knew it was coming. I think people starting fires was the last straw.

It's not ATV riding thats causing the problems. Thats no differant than blaming guns for shootings. It's the thoughtless people using them. You have to respect the land and land owners! Here are the problems I saw; hauling ass, loud bikes, fires left unattended, random gun fire, trash, late night rides, under age drinking, disrespect for land owners, stolen cars, heavy equipment, and trucks dumped out there, and reckless driving. Not all atv'ers did this but it only takes a few, plus the other off roaders. Do you really think you could do all this at the ATV parks? They would toss you in a second! It does suck the a few assholes have to ruin it for all but that is how it works. Last year there were two fires set. I spoke with the forestry agent that was on scene. He told me how they were going to shut the place down with in a year. So it goes beyond city and state when the feds are involved. Look for a new mall or walmart...

JohnF you believe what you will, the out come is still the same. Most of that property belongs to EEL anyways. You will see the next sanctuary. Hunters don't blow off 2 or 3 boxes of ammo. I am a hunter with a lease in  middle GA. I shot 3 deer last year. I fired my rifle 3 times in 3 months. As I said, the people around this land don't like to hear random gun fire nor loud bikes. When at Grant you are NOT "way out in the woods". You are however surrounded by houses with money! It doesn't matter, it is closed and we all know why! Not worth going to jail over, losing your bike and tow vehicle. Atleast not to me it isn't. Outside of Dublin GA, we ride our bikes down the side of the highway to get to the store with no problems from the law!!

Ever been to Thundering Springs? I used to ride there as a kid all over the place.  Looking back, I was definitely a pest to people who lived there but no one ever said a word to me.  Me and 1 other kid used to haul ass everywhere on the roads and through fields.  I was out of line if you were to ask me today but back then, it was just a young kid having fun!  I guess people in rural Georgia have better things to do then worry about what other people are doing.  I wish it was like that here!
