What do you mean WE?Huh We were not riding that ATV. Just because WE ride ATV's does not mean WE are part of that crap. I keep hearing that on here and totaly diagree with that mentality.

Case in point, i am a gun owner. 4 or 5 people were shot yesterday in South Florida alone. Does that make me one of them. No Way.

I ride a Harley. The baddest and biggest criminals are 3 or 4 organized biker clubs in the US. That does not mean I am associated with that crew.

I hope the Caddy is OK. Grin

VForce, I must agree with you on all aspects, but if there is an ATV accident, the media looks at the group as a whole. Now I ask this, when was the last time a vehicle or motorcycle ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle. It happens almost every day, if not every day. Thats why it isn't news to them. But when it happens on an ATV, the people riding were not supposed to be on the highway and the media is looking for the next greatest story. With that said, the people as a whole, only looks at the headlines with the word ATV in them.

I think it's safe to say that the ATV rider paid the ultimate price for being a careless jackass.  I hate to say it, but I do not feel bad for him in the least -- he had what was coming to him.

Diggin I have been on your side a number of times in some very heated threads, but I dont think this time. Vforce has some good points.
The only common denominator is the atv, I dont share anything in common with this dumbazz!

'We' does not necessarily mean 'you and me.'  However, as the point was made, the jackass was riding an ATV and the media will absolutely jump on it; it's hot.  It's one of the favorite topics du jour.  Nevertheless, whether it's a gangsta brutha in the 'hood, such as this jackoff, or one of the other jerks that ruined Holeylands from their antics at the cross-over or even some dumbass sheila up at 5A, it affects us all and many times, the culprits lump themselves in with 'you and me,' thus making it 'we.'  God knows the rest of the world looks at all of us as one and the same.

I think what diggin was trying to say is that in the laws eyes and law makers eyes it could be another reason to put more pressure on atv'ers as a whole.  Take into consideration "PIT BULLS".  Everytime you hear of a pit bull attack the left wingers say that every pit bull is a tickkinig time bomb just waiting to tear a harmless civilian.

On the other hand "WE" could use things like this to justify more riding areas, saying that if "WE" had more places available to ride then "WE" would not be riding on the streets.

 Just something to think about.

They have a big problem in that area with colored people stealing atvs and riding them all aver on the main streets, side street anywhere they want.  Cops dont even give chase because they cant catch them so they just sit there.  They atleast stop at the lights at the major intersections  Smiley Not to long ago someone busted the front of a Pepboys and stole like 4 4wheelers.  Sad that happened but stupid is as stupid does.

Look at the address. I would be willing to bet that bike was stolen and this incident really doesn't reflect on 'us'.

Exactly, There is nothing in the story that says the quad was stolen, so people who had rather close a riding area uses ATV Accident to help increase their numbers to close riding areas.

First of all the media has more power than you would like to care.  The can throw you under the bus on just abouot anything they want and nobody else knows any diffferent.  Mark Lunsfurd could have never been spoke about or they could have tried to spin like the sheriff may have done something wrong just by iimplying something and never get in any trouble.  They can turn a situation good or bad.  They could have said that due to the lack of riding areas in Florida and give facts on the number of riders and the amount of land available is what drove this guy to ride on the street, but no it makes it better to blow up the accident and not a possible cause.  To say that the media has no power over you is a little closed minded.  Ever know someone who has been railroaded by media?  The have the power of public access.  They can steer the public into what they want.  You do not know the difference on most of the news being talked abouot unless you have first hand experience of that story, so how can you argue it and most people don't, they just believe and go on.  Not saying it is right just the way it is.  I'm not trying to spark an argument this is just my opinion ok.

What you say is true for the most part, but 99% of people down here know exactly what happened based on the location and the fact that the Sun-Sentinel failed to mention his race and other details we have come to expect with an ATV crash. Everyone sees these morons blasting around the ghetto in the middle of the city every day. Most just figure it is better than seeing a gunfight or stabbing.

For the people who think that the media does not have any control over you, when was the last time the media was at Tallahassee when riding areas were talked about? Now when was the last time that you or a group was there trying to get more riding areas open? Thats how the media works. Then when was the last time you watched news or read a newspaper. Probably today, now when are you planning to be a local commission meeting complaining about no where to ride.

Now, for JackL, Everybody in Broward may no that riding ILLEGALLY is common in Broward county, but the other people that reads those stories does not know this and when someone goes to Tallahasse to get a riding area closed, they use stories like this to help get them closed and further ban ATVs altogether. They banned three wheelers in some areas and got manufacturers to quit building them, and they use stories like this to try and get ATVs banned also.

I lived the three wheeler ban, and frankly if someone was inclined to try it with quads they would have ten thousand more times the ammunition to do it with these days. I read all the ATV related news stories reported for the USA and Canada. It is very rare a day doesn't go by that someone is killed on a quad, and a average of twelve serious injuries a week is common.

I was going to set up an automated ATV news site and when I saw what the bulk of stories are I kept it private, because I was actually shocked. I can't imagine the knee jerk reaction some Nader like safety dance person  'save you from yourself' type person would have..

If anything, this story highlights the need for safe LEGAL riding areas down in the intercity since it is discrimination because the swamp is so far west and only people out west here can afford to enjoy it anymore...

This story affects nothing outside of Broward County, and the commission here doesn't care one way or the other what goes on in that area. Neither do the police, SFWMD or the FWC.

They should open that superfund dump site on 31st AVE to MX riding!
Hell, I would go ride the arsenic mud and do doughnuts on the fresh bahia. They let the people drink from wells surrounding the thing, I think this is a good idea. Maybe waders have a place in riding afterall..

That's true.  In fact, I'm sure there's a bunch of Democrats on here that don't want to be labeled pansy-assed, tree-huggin left wing diaper rash but they are, just because of their affiliation.  You are the company you keep.

You're missing the whole point.  No one is arguing the fact the guy was a complete idiot...riding illegal....riding irresponsibly...and doesnt represent the majority of quality ATV riders in our state.  But the fact is that doesn't mean jack chit.  The lawmakers and those in a position to make change or halt change aren't going to look at that one person and make a judgment based on that one person and what type of person that was, what race they were, etc...etc.  And when you speak of being "lumped into that group".  You dont have a choice in the matter.  You're an ATV rider, for better or worse, till death do you part.......and one stupid ignorant piece of chit that does something like this affects ALL ATV riders.  It doesnt mean all ATV riders are the same, but it affects us all, that's just the way of the world.  Maybe this one particular incident might not cause any problems or bring about any big change.  But wait till the day where some senator's daughter is on the back of that quad and see what happens.  Media or not, the chit will hit the fan.  And WE will all suffer the consequences of one idiot that has absolutely nothing to do with you or the majority of ATV riders who love and respect the sport.
