How Deep Is Too Deep ?

On a 2006 Honda Foreman 500......why does the crankcase have to be vented into the airbox ?  Is there any reason why it can't be vented up to the handlebars or is there a specific reason why it is vented into the airbox ?

 You do not want trash in your crank case...you can vent it ip the snorkle, just as you would vent tubes.

LOL.....they should know better by now.  I love the commercials though where they show the quads going through a 3 inch deep mud puddle and they have some comment like "Born To Go Anywhere"
