I went ridin yesterday and got into some deep water..like the whole back of the quad under water deep...got out and ride for about 2-3 hours, then all of a sudden I hit the throttle and it revs then drops off and starts to backfire. does this for 10 minutes then stalls, start it back up and it takes off like nothing happened, ride about 1 1/2 hours more and it starts doing it again. Any ideas....Thanks.

When I feel athletic, I go to a sports bar.

Drain the air box, clear your air filter. Check your oil. Most likely your CDI unit has water in it. It may dry out, or die in a day or two.

Checked the air box and it was dry, air filter was clean, oil was good. What does CDI stand for? Rode around the yard and it was hesitating and backfiring alot then it seemed to gain power back and was running good. Is it possible that there was an obstruction in the muffler/exhaust?

Capacitor Discharge Ignition. AKA spark box.
I don't think a wet muffler would make it back fire but who knows.

Sometimes when you go into deep water, water and dirt will enter your carbs vent lines. You will probably need to drain and clean your carb.

He's right. A few drops in the carb can make for some mean back fires.
