I'm sure they will get bored from riding on a 1 acre lot before long.
If not here's a solution get a couple of gopher turtles and put them on there (track)poperty. Then you can call the Sierra club, The land will become protected then.

This has become a
very divisive issue
within our community, and as I do
more research
, I see that it is not isolated to our neighborhood, town or even state. It seems that on a
national level
this is definitely a
"hot button" issue
. It's really very sad.
Thank you to everyone who replied!
great here we go......
Gonna have to keep your quads at a self storage facility and not be able to keep them at your house before long
D&*N!!!!!!!!!!!! What's happing to our great country?
? Might as well wake up Stalin or Hitler and come run this BEE-AT-CH before long

I am reading the post as a residential neighborhood. If it is out in the country then it is a different story. Regardless, they still need to be respectful neighbors.
Now, Let me ask this, and answer it honestly. What hrs of the day are they riding? Also, is it the city or rural?
We are located outside of city limits but we are a deed restricted community. We think our board members are afraid of this family. They ride all hours of the day, even into the night at times. I don't there has ever been one weekend, except when they were away, that they don't ride. It makes it impossible to enjoy being outside or even think of entertaining. This has become a very divisive issue within our community, and as I do more research, I see that it is not isolated to our neighborhood, town or even state. It seems that on a national level this is definitely a "hot button" issue. We only want the ability to enjoy our property as much as we did prior to this family moving in. All attempts to get them to be respectful neighbors have only incited them to ride more, and create as much noise as possible. It's really very sad.
Thank you to everyone who replied!
Maybe you should buy a quad & come to a group ride. You may enjoy the heck out of yourself & then ride on your property.
Seriousley, most of the atv riders I know would take your feelings into account somewhat & try to compromise.
There are always bad apples, its not the atv it is the rider/owner, just keep that in mind when you are talking to your board & giving your opinion about situations you deem as "really sad".
I would like to hear your neighbors point of view on all of this. Maybe you all have crossed them some way & they use this as a tool to get back at you.
As they say there is always 2 sides to every story.

I ride around my neighborhood ALOT.
but then again i have no neighbors on my block . one neighbor on the next block over , they ride too.
and i live in the freakin boonies! lol.
if i do go ride around somewhere somewhat populated . i pass threough and keep riding , i dont stay making noise in one area.
Now , in Miami ....I cant say i was much of a rule follower. lol

if it's somewhere near the Orlando area, I'd be willing to come out with my quads and show you what fun they can be, while also talking with the neighbors myself to see how we can come to some kind of agreement.
Like many of the posts above have said,,,,these people seem like the bad apples of the bunch and most of us riders are respectful of others.

how self-centered and idiotic do you have to be to make a comment like the one above?
by your logic, I should be able to start up a meth lab in my house that has the possibility of exploding and leveling my house and yours just because it's my home and property.
I agree whole-heartedly that you should be able to do whatever you want with your own property but none of us live in a world unto ourselves,,,,we have neighbors, we have people that live around us that would like not to live in anarchy.
I was taught something very early that apparently some of the people who have commented here have forgotten,,,,,treat others the way you wish to be treated.
Let me give you a for-instance.....
Let's say you are doing what you like with your own property and have pissed off every neighbor around you and one day the quad gets a little squirrelly and you fly off of it and break your leg,,,,there you are laying in the middle of the street with a broken leg with no cell phone, and no-one home who knows you are out riding through the neighborhood. But your neighbor whom you have repeatedly pissed off and refused to get along with is sitting on their front porch and watching you wreck. You then watch your neighbor wave at you and laugh,,,then he mumbles under his breath "that's what you get" right before he walks inside to go watch American Idol.
Wouldn't you rather have a neighbor whom you at least made an effort to get along with sitting on the porch to call for help, or possibly help you get to the hospital?
Think about it before you respond,,,,," it shouldn't matter because it's MY land"

I support Anoriginal's position. If you want to hear that, go live in a trailer park. After getting no cooperation from discussions, I once used Led Zepplin's Rock and Roll played as loud as possible and repetitively to convince various ethnic individuals not to play their music so loud that it drowned out my TV. For your neighbors, I'd recommend you try using some ethnic music over and over on them to drown-out the ATV mufflers.

hehe, funny I did the same thing but I did it pumping out Jimmy Buffett,,,,,my neighbors actually had my windows rattling in my bedroom till about 2am one night after I had asked them to tone it down so me and my daughter could sleep.
So the next day when the party started again, I put a couple speakers in the window and started pumping out Buffett loud enough that they could hear it over their music,,,,within 20 minutes the rattling stopped and we have gotten along ever since with no mention of it again.

at my dads house he has two acres i rarely ride on it because i got to an area or a race but when i do the 15 mexican children that live next to me enjoy sitting on the backside of the berm and have a dirt shower lmao. im fortunate my neighbors dont complain i dont know them so im not gonn jinx myself. but i see no problem in riding in your own yard, if you live in a rural area. just use common respect. and wats up with everybody saying the sound of exaust annoys you?
dont you guys ride?

and in my "for-instance" story, how could you prove that the neighbor was on his/her porch before they went to watch TV?
Like I said, I agree with property rights, but think about it a little deeper than that, how would you like to be treated?
I know it's a bit morbid, but I go through life thinking,,,,how many people would show up at my funeral and be upset, and how many would be happy?
I'd like for the first group to be bigger.

With age comes wisdom.
give up trying to reason with these yougsters Id@. It really isnt worth it. They dont even see through the trees to the forest. I have gathered from several posts on this thread that there are some really immature punks on here & they are just adding to the problems we as responsible atvers have to deal with.
These punks will always have places to ride because most of them will ride illegally then bit*h about getting in trouble for it.
While good people who own atv's try to make better places for everyone to ride legally these punks just keep putting it all in a bad light by riding in neighborhoods & on streets & justifying it with idiotic logic.
Why cant you guys contain yourselves & plan a ride somewhere legally. Save your money & quit buying car neons, ipods, video games & subwoofers & spend it on a way to get to a legal riding area once in a while.
Start supporting the OHV parks that are starting up so they can keep open. I am not just talking about the Motoplex, there are several.
Although the Motoplex is the best in Florida at this time I might add!

Here is what you do. buy something that is offensively loud. Wait until you know that they were up till late at night. Get up at like 5am or 6 am. Crank up that loud equipment and hammer on it. They will get the message. I used to have a neighbor that raced racecars and every Saturday night he would come home around 1 or 2am after a race and work on his race car. He would even drive pass our house at 1am or 2am in the race car. I put straight pipes on my truck with no mufflers and one night after he came home working on his car. I got up and at 7am started my truck and kept reving up the engine for about 30 minutes. He never worked on his race car at night again. Later he told me that the neighbor about a 1/2 mile from us called him that morning and told him to shut that car off. He said that he told him it was me that time. LOL

If the best response is to annoy them at 5AM, you would be the same bad sort of neighbor as the other nearby homes would have to put up retalitoty noise at 5AM. It is wrong to do even though it sounds fun. Maybe all the neighbors TOGETHER should visit the fellow, not in an intimidating manner, just a good neighborly discussion. Home prices are bad enough right now to have your home devalued by something as sensless as riding round and round in small little circles digging a track in the yard that a junkyard dog would envy. Do these people rent the home or own it? If they rent, make sure to call the real owner and let them know what is going on.

Tastes like chicken! And, I'm sorry but some form of SAFE civil disobedience is in order to stimulate debate on opening up more legal riding areas. Because, the Let's Just Ban It Crowd lacks imagination and it costs money to enforce their selfish laws.

I have a question for ATV riders, and would greatly appreciate your honest feedback. I am one of those neighbors of folks who ride their ATV's next door like they are in the forest. They've torn up their yard and have had upwards of 5 ATV's running at once - both child size and adult. The noise and property destruction is driving me and other neighbors crazy. We have one acre lots. What once was a very nice neighborhood is driving some folks to sell. They know it, but continue to ride as if they are the only ones around. We are not trying to be insensitive, and all have friends with ATV's but they take them to appropriate places to ride. We feel it is people like this who are giving responsible ATV riders a bad name.
My question is this - is residential riding customarily an accepted practice to avid ATV riders? Thanks in advance for your responses.
I would find it unacceptable to ride on just 1 acre lots in residential areas. I live in a gated community and its sucks because I cant ride my ATV no matter how tempted I am because I realize that it makes a lot of noise and people dont want to hear that all day. I could understand if they had maybe 5 acres or something but 1 acre isnt much for riding and it would make neighbors too close for noise. Like I said I wouldnt see a huge problem if it were 5 acre wooded lots because a lot of noise would be dampened but even then nobody wants to hear that all the time. An occasional 20 minute ride around the house would be to me considered OK on a 5 acre lot but trying to make a 1 acre lot an MX track is deffiantely not respectful to others. The best thing to do would be to talk to them and explain that there are designated areas all around the state to ride and many other neighbors have brought up the noise issue and it would be nice if you could not ride around all the time.

Thanks to everyone, most of you have restored my faith in humankind, or at least respect and common courtesy. I guess it's just like anything we do that we enjoy; there is a time and place for everything. And thanks to all who offered to take me riding. I've been riding. As I said earlier, I have a lot of friends who own ATVs and I know it's a lot of fun, in the proper place (but not in the neighborhood). As someone said earlier, real estate values continue to plummet, and having this in our neighborhood sure doesn't help, and that is also a valid point. For most of us, our home is the single biggest investment we will ever make in our lifetime, and after looking long and hard before having my home built, I thought I would be safe from this kind of activity in choosing a deed restricted community. Had I purchased acreage outside of a neighborhood with no restrictions, I would have to say that I may have expected to encounter this sort of stuff. And as some have also stated, it only takes one bad apple to ruin a bunch. I do believe that most people, regardless of their choices for fun are inherently good, and I know for myself, if I was doing something that disturbed my neighbors, I would adjust my actions accordingly. It's like ID said...treat others as you would want to be treated. And I agree with ID...at my demise I'd rather have the larger group of people sad. In short, thank you. And to those that questioned, I'm not a "mole" or out to prove anything, I simply wanted to know how avid riders felt. I know some compared my question to their own riding...on 12 acres, next to sheriff..I don't think you can honesly compare 1 and 12 acres. If you take away the land their house sits on, the shed, and the other sundry lawn ornaments, I would venture to say a safe bet would be they may have 1/4 acre on which they ride. I just heard on the news tonight that Ocala is creating miles of new trails that should be open by summer. I know it's no consolation to those that don't desire to trailer their ATVs to ride, but by the same token, if I owned a boat, I wouldn't expect to dig a big hole in back yard and fill it with water just so I could "go boating." Common sense and basic common courtesy go a long way to peacefully and happily co-existing. Happy riding to all you responsible riders out there, which includes myself!

well now here is where we might go our separate ways on thinking, Ocala National forest used to be approximately 330,000 acres completely open to all forms of off highway vehicles(ATVs), they have most recently shut down more than half of that acreage and made it illegal to ride on anything but the designated trails,,,,,so in effect they have taken tens of thousands of miles of trails and are giving back only a couple hundred.
So while it may sound good to some, take notice of the spin.
And I'm glad some of us have been able to restore your faith in humanity.

I was thinking while reading all this, that this owner who is pissed probably lives right next door to Vforcedave! lol

I believe very strongly in private property rights, but I'm not an idiot and I know common courtesy and decency towards other people (for the most part, anyways
). If the riding on the residential property is done with a stock exhaust system, and within reasonable daylight hours, then I'm gonna have to chock it up to cohabitation. If their dicks and running loud pipes riding in circles throwing dust at the side of your house at 2:00AM, then yeah, their idiots that need be to struck down by the hand of God himself.
I do think though, a lot of people in general, buy property in sub-divisions in areas right outside of town and think they will be well secluded or protected from things they dont like. Well, the fact of the matter is, it don't matter WHERE the property is located at, if you can see another persons house from yours, your pretty much at their mercy for what they want to do at their place. Theres plenty of subdivisions out in the middle of freakin no where, with 1 or 2 acre lots and to me its still the exact same thing as being in town cause theres houses all around you. Its like buying house right next to a road, well yeah the road might be secluded and less traveled now but one day its gonna be a super highway and its gonna be your front yard.
When in doubt, buy more property and live in a smaller house is my way of thinking.
