Not enough fuel? You tell me.

I have a 240 Vito’s kit on my blaster with a Bills complete exhaust, reed spacer, V-Force reed cage, Uni air filter with an outer wears air box cover, and the jetting that is recommended my Vito’s. I also have a T.O.R.S elimination kit and new but stock gearing.
Now, taking all that into consideration this is the problem I having. When I race bigger and faster trikes and quads, I hang with them though all five gears, but after that if I stay on it, it starts to break up like it is not getting enough fuel. It literally sounds as though it is starving for it. I have lost against bigger and more powerful machines that I seriously believe I could have beaten if that had not happened.
Any ideas?

Louis. When you are doing these high speed runs have you checked your plug color? sounds like it may be a little rich, if you were lean at them speeds you would probably be seizing a piston.. you say you have the TORS elimation kit, what size carb are you running??KEN

Hey, good morning. Some else mentioned the plug to me last night in a conversation. To be honest I never thought about that nor do I really know what to look for. I am running the stock carb (a 28MM I think) with the jetting that came with the Vito's kit.
What do you suggest I look for?

Well if your running the stock carb its a 26mm, and the first thing would be to throw that in the circular file and pick up at least a 30mm, other wise that big bore kit was a waste of money, then run wide open and check the plug color, should be a light tan, if its white its lean and if it dark or black its rich..I have a 30 mm flat slide on a stock unported, piped blaster and it runs good so it would be a safe bet you could pretty easily do a 32mm..KEN

The carb is something I wanted to upgrade, but I have a strong hole shot and good short bursts of speed. So that led me to believe there was no reason to change the carb. I just recently tried to run against the bigger more powerful machines. I have some larger carbs I have been saving for my Tri-Z builds. How big is too big? Is it a good idea to have my stocker bored? I was told I should do that. I am just wondering, because money is an issue and better carbs are not cheap.

Boring would be a last option, but a nice 30-32 flat slide would do wonders for it....KEN

When your on the gas and if you let off quickly does your rpms hang up a little then start to go down? If so, your lean. If your tap the throttle, does it bog or not as responsive? If it does that then your rich. Before getting a carb I would up the jetting a size or two on your main and try it. If problem is still there go down 1 size on the main. I have a bunch of stuff done to my bikes and I'm still using stock carbs, with a lot bigger jets(idle and main) Hope this helps. -Mark

I have real good throttle response. It does hang up, but not very often. I would like to save some money on a carb, but at the same time I do not want to buy stock in jets. Is going up only one size going to make a noticable difference?

my friend had a Vito's 240 kit on his blaster and it did the smae thing but when he got a new 34mm carb it cleared it right up but he still couldn't beat me in a race due to the fact that he was a crappy driver

If it's hanging up that is a sign of a lean condition. So on the top end it's starving for fuel. Main jets aren't that expensive. I would think you would only need 2. I think they're like 4$ a piece. Get the next size up and the one after. Put one in and try it. That should solve your problem. No need for a new carb. My quad has alot of stuff done to it and I'm still running stock carb. But I'm gonna change it soon. -Mark

What you just said is turning out to be more likely the case. I have not had enough time to really dig into it lately. But i plan to hopefully next weekend if not before.

Bigger main jet but just a little bigger , maybe 2.5 larger...sounds like you got it pretty close .....Then you might have to lean the needle a clip to tighten the mids back up .I miss 2 strokes already ....dont forget to re adjust the air mix screw .
