Well I had Adelphia, but it was bought out by Comcast. Comcast introduced itself to me with a letter saying they bought the service and now my rates were going to be increased to $63 per month. It went up $20 just like that.
So I tried to cancel the service and for some crazy reason they cannot, or say they cannot. I flipped out on the guy and told him the little modem thingy will be hanging on the gate for them to pick up. They scared me by saying I will be charged all this money and bla-bla-bla..

So now about 8 months later, I am still with them and must first say, I love the service. I love the speed in which I can watch videos or download. It is the same as when I was with Adelphia for $40 a month.
My question is, are there any other providers that offer the speed Comcast/cable does and what are the cost differences?
I am trying to cut back on expenses and the internet is one that I need, but think I should be paying less for it. I do ALL of my billing and finances on-line.
I am just sick of paying $750+ every year for internet when I think I might do better.
Any suggestions?

The cheapest I have found in my area was a package deal with embarq (home phone, DSL, and Dish Network) Now with that said I DO NOT like DSL but it is cheaper and it is sufficient enough to get me by.  I am sure your service is better, to start out with at least once a month my DSL would go out for about a week.  But it is cheaper so I stayed with it.  I pay $170 a month this includes DSL, Home phone, and dish network with HD package, HBO, local Chanel's, and the Chanel package is 2 higher than the bottom package.  So I could go down to about $100 a month (which I am fixing to do)  Need to save where ever I can LOL just like you are saying.

Well, we have Bellsouth/AT&T and its good to us. Its plenty fast but its not cable. Most pages load instantly. Some take a few secs. I think ours is $33 plus the taxes a month. The fastest DSL is $42 plus taxes a month. Our internet bill comes to 32.95 a month. Total. We have the ultra package. Never had it go down. Other than me screwing it up trying to get it to work wireless. I suck at this computer crap. Its  through our home phone though so if you dont have a home phone, it wont work. We were gonna get Brighthouse and cancel the home phone and just use the cell phones to save extra $ but were too far from the cable hook up. These lazy arse idiots workin for them wouldnt do it. Theyre like its too long of a trench to dig and you wont have good quality. So I cant tell you from experience how that is but my uncle swears by it. So if you can get them to do it, it should be good.

DSL, I don't personally like the speed, but if all you do is surf the internet and check your email it's all you need.

if you are downloading lots of videos and such, then a cable broadband connection is your best bet.

http://www.dslreports.com/search

check out the below link,,,punch in your zip code and it will show you providers in your area and let you compare them as well,,,,,don't get too excited over the prices and read the fine print,,,then call the company to confirm they cover your area.

It just dawned on me that to have anything other than cable modem, I would have to have a phone line. That's $25 a month. Add the DSL and I'm back to, if not higher, than where I started.
I guess they've got me by the nads.

We have Bellsouth (which was recently bought out bt AT&T).  We have the fastest one they offer which is the Xtreme 6.0.  Its like $45/month or something like that.  Only time it has gone down is just like Fox.. when I tried to go wireless lol.  For some reason it won't work for us... or atleast the connection slows down ALOT.  Other than that we love it.  For some reason my parents love it because it comes on the same bill as the telephone... go figure.

actually, a basic phone line runs in the $13 range,,,,,the phone companies don't advertise that rate and there is a specialname for it, but it is offered.

you have to be very adamant with the phone company that you want the most basic phone line available and if they come back with a price higher than $15,,,,just pull a Nancy Reagan on them and say NO.
