Can anyone help with Proper Mixture Ratio on 1989 RM 125 & 1996 RMX 250.

I just picked up a couple of these and been out of the 2 stroke for a while.

Thanx

most 2 strokes it's good to run 32 to 1 mixture. get a good ration rite it'll make you life easier instead of trying to measure off of the bottle in ounces

if they do start and it's just hard to start. try running 32:1 and it shoud free up and deposits after a tank or 2. if that does not help then yes I would say at least a new set of rings at the least, along with new plug. Also another thing you can check it  the reeds, to see if they are still good.

Both these bikes sat for a while, so I pulled carbs off and sprayed Reeds with Carb cleaner and blew out.  Is there anything I should look for in the reeds to see signs of needing replaced Huh

you should actually take the reed cage out and inspect them. there should not be any gaps between the reeds and the cage. They should sit flush and not be brittle. If there is any distortion in them replace them. That would make then hard to start. as far as cleaning the carbs did you take them apart and clean them or just spray them down? if they sit for a while the float bowl on the bottom of the carb will gum up with whatever oil was used to mix with the gas. really need to pull the jets to inspect them as well

40:1 synthetic 2 stroke and both will love it.It will keep the plug cleaner also.

32:1 is safe if you run top-end or wide open all the time.50:1 is okay if you run trails at idle or putting around.

You have to learn to kick a 2-stroke on its compression stroke. It makes a huge difference.

I had an early 90's CR500 for a long time and that is by far the worst starting motor known to man.I learned a lot of tricks.

My first quad was a banshee, it didn't like the 50-1 mixture at all, it kept fouling one plug.
Switched to 32-1 and never had a problem.

Re-reading my post I see where my comment was wrong.
I was burning one plug up, not fouling it out. Barney's told me to use 32-1 mix and it solved the problem.

I run 40.1 just so I don't have to have two mixed jugs. My 125 runs a little lean and my 250 runs a little rich. I run one size bigger main in the 125. The 125 is wide open most of the time.
