Scoop:

The other day I was in my moms Jeep and I noticed the engine/tranny light came on.  When I got home me and my dad checked it out, but found nothing mechanically wrong.  Figured out a system must have to be reset or some BS.  Today me and my mom head up to Crystal Autos, where she purchased the Jeep.  We get there and they say its going to take a couple hours to diagnose on the computer, so we decide to walk around the lot.  We were checking out some Wranglers they had, when a salesman came over.  My mom said how we were getting our car fixed and whatnot.  He showed us a 2007 Jeep Compass.  Limited edition, chrome wheels, nice car.  After about 5mins of persuasion my mom went inside and traded it for our other Jeep (lol shes a sucker for any new car).

While my mom was finishing the paperwork I was talking to the guy and I was saying how I was in the market for a new truck.  He asked what I was looking for, and the first thing I said was American Wink.  After explaining I wanted a diesel and whatnot, he said he had something I might like but it was a gasser.  So he goes outback and brings out front a badass truck.  I fell in love instantly lol.  Its a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 HEMI.  Nice mild lift, nothing extreme.  Mud Grapplers, side steps, offroad lights, etc...  Only bad part was all the chrome doodads.  I check it out and it was nice.  Quad cab wasn't as big as I thought but ehh who cares I would be up front driving Wink.  He lets me take it for a test ride, and man that truck sounded good.  He wasn't sure of the exhaust but I believe it was Flowmaster.  I turn out on 50 and that truck hauled ass when I gassed it.  More power than I thought it would have.  We go back to the dealership and hes saying all the features, blah blah blah.  I ask him the price since everything he said would make this truck atleast 35k.  He says its listed as 28k Shocked.  I said how it was a good price and all but I didn't want to go over 20k really.  He says we can workout some numbers inside.  So we go inside and I tell my mom about it.  So she helps with the paperwork and credit (since I have none).  He goes to whoever it is he goes to and comes back with three options.  All were over $500/month.  HAHAHAHAAH no thanks buddddeee.  So he asks what it is im looking to pay montly, and I said nothing over $400.  He goes back to see what he can do, and after about 10mins comes back with a smile.  $381.16/month for 72months with $0 down.  I was sold, and so was my mom.  Only problem was my dads approval.  So I call him to see if he can come down, and he cant since hes too busy at work.  So we couldn't do anything else (especially since he would be the main signer).  The guy offers me to take the truck home for the night if I wanted, but I said no when I remembered that good ol policy "You break it you buy it" Cheesy  So to sum it up, theres a REALLY good chance this is my new ride.

The Truck

Moms new Compass

Remember, everyone leaves a car lot thinking they are getting a great deal. If not, then the salesman isnt doing their job.

WOW -- My dad got home around 4:30 and we went up.  He had to finalize the paperwork on the Compass either way.  We get there and I see the truck has been moved behind the locked fence area.  I ask why and someone bought it.  Apparently the salesman that I had sat down with left early, so no one new the truck was 'half' bought?  Or at least thats the pathetic excuse they gave me.  I think its just a bunch of BS and they didn't want to wait for a sale.  Thats a good way to loose MY future business and my parents.  My dad was pissed off about that, and said 'If my wife didn't already sign on the doted line that compass wouldn't be leaving the lot' right to the sales managers face.Cheesy

Oh well, maybe its a sign to go diesel? Evil

Yea, plus you don't want a Doge. I spend a lot of time at mechanic shops and 60% of the work is on Doge or  Chrysler cars. I have not seen to many trucks in there though. I would go with a Chevy or Ford. Ford if you want to lift it because the 250 and 350 come with straight axles in the front. Much more dependable than CV axles, that come on the quarter ton trucks.

And to finance it for 72months Shocked. That truck will be lucky to be on the road in 72months. The interest rate for 72months on a truck that old must be in the 20's.
They did your dad a favor by "selling" that thing. Dont be in a hurry to get a truck. You should be able to find a nice truck similiar to that one in the teens easily & from a private owner would be even better.

rebel i really wouldn't worry about that truck.  it was nice.  however, my first reservation was when you mentioned the 72 month pay off.  not a good idea on a used vehicle and the gas engine for that long didn't sound promising.  like was said you'll be owing on the truck long after it's off the road.  in addition due to interest, payments, and remaining pay off on it you'd be upside down on the truck even if you did want to get rid of it.

trust that things happen the way they do for a reason.  you weren't meant to have that truck.  be patient cause you're truck will be there and it will be the right situation.  to be honest i'm surprised your dad would even consider letting you get into a 72 month payment plan.

i have an 01' dodge ram 1500 quad cab, w/ the 4x4 off road package.  I only pay 265/month on her.  Which is allowing me the freedom to do some other things to her to make her look better.  i was gonna go out and buy an 07-08 powerstroke or duramax.  after looking at the numbers i was much more content to stay in what i had and use the extra money some where else.  500/month is a lot of money for someone your age.  in addition did you call and find out how much full coverage on a truck like that would cost you?  i'm gonna guess between the two you'd be looking at almost 1K/month to own that truck.  you'd have no money to put gas in it or take a chick out.  better to go a little older but still nice and be able to go have fun rather than be truck poor.

You crazy kids, I just paid a whopping $500 for this 3/4 ton one owner (98,000 miles) 4x4 Suburban decked out with a class four hitch and full on trailer brakes. I have a total of $40 invested for the stupid wax 4WD actuator and already put 2000 miles on it. Good luck buying another truck every month with your payment and being afraid to smash through the bushes.  Cool

If it breaks bad I can walk away laughing and give it to someone in need, but the 60 PSI of oil pressure makes me think it will be around a while.

I just got into my first car payment a few months ago when I bought my 99' F-150. When you buy a car or truck, be more interested in the money you'll have AFTER the payments each month and also what the final price is with you interest rate and loan duration. I pay $239.36 a month for my truck. It cost about $7000 out the door at a dealership. However, after interest for the 48 months it will cost me about $9,000 to pay it off. That sucks because it's not worth nearly that much. Wasn't even worth $7,000 but thats how banks make money.

If you do get into a payment, DON'T sign as the primary owner. Use your dad's credit and let him sign as the primary owner and you sign as the co-owner. That way you are not using your non-existant credit but you are actually accumulating it based off your dad's credit. Thats what I did and it'll help alot when I go to get another loan. Also, at your age and based off my educated guess of what you DON'T get paid, you probably wont want to get anything longer than 48 months. Even 60 months is going to be harsh. Keep the payments low as long as you can.

i know i said febuary but ive decided to sell it sooner

its not paid off yet, im borrowing money to pay it off for when i sell it

in less than 2 years ive payed off about half this truck already, the reason im selling it is to buy another truck with cash money and have no more payments

I'll just take over the payments, its ok Wink

If you were to finance $30,000 for 60 months with zero interest then you payment would be $500. Add interest and its near $600 with a good rate. And thats not including taxes and tag fees. You can go 72 months and get it a little lower but not much. Some credit unions will even go 84 months but I wouldn't recommend either on a used truck.

No no no, it was 381.16/month for 72months, all that was with interest and other BS fees.  So basically they dropped from their 28k asking price to probably around >25.  Doesn't matter now anyways, I'm not going to go back and my dad said thats the last time he was going to get a car from there also.  I guess the next car lot to stop by and look at has a donkey that hangs in swamps managing it Cheesy

Yeah, you need to talk to Scott...
Crystal has SCREWED sooooooo many peaple around here !!!They tried the bait ans switch thing on my parents a few years ago, Needless to say that went over like a turd in the punch bowl.

Another guy I know bought a used truck there, paid them to put a lift on it that he bought there, then when the truck broke down, they told him that the lift voided the warranty and they wouldnt fix the truck !!

Anyway, take your time.......
The way the economy is going, making a payment might get be a HARD thing to do anyway!!!!
