You are right. The state does not recognize them as motor vehicles. You don't even need a driver's license to get a tag. Just a valid ID.

As long as you have NOT financed more then $5000 you
do NOT need insurance and if you choose to ride in
Florida without your helmet you MUST have Insurance to cover YOUR
BODY and proof of or its a ticket.

Yes you do need a license. You need a motorcycle license.

most people say that but my friend paul was going through a intersection and a motorcycle ran it and slammed right into the pass. side were he was. he had to get stiches in his face by his eye from the glass debree and broke his arm, the guy on the motorcycle died, the police said he must have been going 80 or so to create the amount of damage there was.

I thought the rules about a license was that if the bike's engine was over 49cc, then you had to have a motorcycle license,,,,,that's how they can sell scooters to anyone.

Thats right ID@ if its less than 49cc you mught not need a lic. BUT... non the less it can still get you pulled over and issued a ticket till it gets cleared up in court. I'm seeing this more & more often at work.
ALSO if you get the ticket make sure the clerck of the courts clears it from the system !!! very important. More often than not ive seen people go to jail with a bench warrant because it was not removed from the system...

not true. i was watchin the news a year or two ago and a GSX-R 600 hit a chevy blazer (the newer smaller ones) and split it in half. he was doin a lil over the speedlimit but it can happen. all the people in the truck were hurt pretty bad and the dude on the GSX-R died. they said the tach froze when he hit the truch so they were gonna see what gear he was in and figure out how fast he was going but i never saw that.

The little 49cc scooters are also known as the "2many dui's bikes".
Keep that in mind next time you see someone riding one.
You can usually tell who those guys are... Cheesy

There is a guy in Riverview who owns a pizza restaurant who drives one because he cant get a license due to too many dui's. he rides that thing all over.
It is a little tecnicality the law didnt think about.
