wireless issue?

so this past weekend, my brother messed with the cables from the modem to the router, and now wireless no workie
I've tried reinstalling the software for the router again but it wont recognize the internet. The internet is coming from bellsouth dsl, the router doesn't see the internet but it for sure works as i'm posting this as we speak on the desk top comp. The router is a Linksys WRT54G and i've tried installin the software numerous times in this past week. The router worked before untill my brother decided he need to play with these wires, we had this issue before and my dad called Bell, and they walked him through the setup, i've tried that and they tell me they don't have the information on any Linksys routers and to call linksys, any help would greatly be appreciated

If he unplugged the DSL modem he might have reset it to factory default with is routed mode. Call bell south and have them make sure the DSL modem is set to bridged mode.

First we need to make sure your IP address isn't zero-ed out on the computer in question....
Click the Start button and select All Programs (XP) or Programs (NT and 2000).
Select Accessories, then Command Prompt (2000 and XP), or Command Prompt (NT).
At the command prompt, enter:
ipconfig
To close the command prompt, enter:
exit

Next you want to release and reset your IP address
You will need to release your current IP address and gateway in order to get a new one. If this turns out not to be the problem with your computer, this proceedure will not hurt anything by attempting it. Release your current IP by typing the following ipconfig /release and then press enter. This will release any assigned IP addresses and gateways from your computer.
Next you need to type in ipconfig /renew to get a new IP address or default gateway. On the screen your should see your new Default Gateway and IP Address. If you are using a router or your IP has not changed on your modem then the addresses may not have changed.
Type exit to leave the command prompt and get to Windows.

Rico, if he can get on via a wired connection its not an IP addy issue.
One thing that just popped into my warped little mind, does anyone have access to your router? Could anyone have changed the WEP key settings?
Did you have WEP enabled on your router? If not someone close to you could have hijacked your router. (it can be done with a pringles can and a few other parts)

well..... if i knew what that was.... uhm we had this problem with it when we first got it, so i wouldn't think its a hijacking issue, but a setup issue as when walked through the setup before it worked and for awhile, my broter just recently started unhooking and rehooking the wires to difrent ports and what not and now the wireless router through the comp doesnt see internet

Have you tried calling Linksys? I know when I first set my wireless up it was a mess as I had one computer with Windows XP and one with Vista. It took some time but Linksys was able to fix everything.

if you hook your computer up to the linksys router (probably has a few ports 4? that are labeled lan) do you have internet? Make sure the cable from the DSL modem goes to the WAN port on the router.

How dare you speak to a SUPREME member in such a contemptuous tone? I smoot thee!
OK, now that you've reset your IP address, (I assume you have the green light flashing that says internet underneath it on your router...make sure that's flashing) you need to unistall the LINKSYS software and reinstall it without the security key. When the pop up dialogue box asks if you want to set the security key, click option NO.
Install the software, and now check to see if it works without the security key.
Let me know when this step is complete.
