New to this forum and new to ATVs. After 40 years off road on two wheels and after transporting numerous buddies to urgent care I departed from the off road scene about ten years ago. Now, at 63, the bug has struck once again although now I'm trading two wheels for four. Being a California/Oregon transplant I recall the best times ever off road were spent on sand dunes in Glamis, CA and those in Florence, OR. This February, with toyhauler in tow, the wife and I are heading out west for my last hurrah in the sand. If I survive the trip we'll likely, on our return to Florida, sell off the ATV and Weekend Warrior and spend the rest of our retirement on or around the water.

If anybody out there in ATV land is interested in learning more about sand dunes or joining us in this venture just shoot me an email - love to talk to you. At 63 I'm obviously not as competitive as I used to be but I'll give most a run for their money - or least a good laugh watching me trying.....

Welcome to the site Mike. That trip would be AWESOME. You're going to have a blast for sure.
Keep checking in  here for the group rides or just to get a good laugh at some of the crap that you'll see argued about.

I wish everyone an opportunity to experience the dunes - its like no other riding. In California and Oregon I did the hill climbs, the trails, the deserts, the mountains, the mud, and the beaches but nothing beats the sand dunes (plus I like the fact that you and machine come home reasonably clean....). I've included a link below to some pics I acquired over the net (if you're interested). I plan on taking lots of pics during our trip to Glamis.

On a personal note - I acquired a new ATV back in March but it spends its life cradled away in our toyhauler for lack of knowing anyone locally that likes to ride and knows the area. I think there's less than 10 hrs on the clock - only been up the road off I-95 but the area ran out pretty quick. If anyone out there can put up with an ole fart wantin to group up again I'd like to talk to you. My wife is a good sport about my passion but does not really care to get into it. I'll probably give it up myself when we return to Florida but until then I'd like to put some hours on this thing

Mike,

Welcome to the site!!!  That is just AWESOME!!!

Glamis is like the top sand spot to ride!!  Never been.  Farthest West I've been is Louisiana.

So what kind of 4-wheeler did (or are going to) you get?

Too old for the high performance stuff - got a new 660 Griz which should have enough poop to navigate the dunes. Got an extra set of rims for it so if I have to I'll get some paddles for it.

When/if you do decide to sell it, look me up. I am interested.
Good luck at glamis, I only can wish I could go for now.
One day I have promised my son he & I will ride up that hill out there. I have a few more years though. i know his DRX90 would do ok out there, but until he is at least on a blaster we will have to wait.
