Ah but he/she paid to have female parts. Now he can play w/ them forever. Now he can go into any women's locker room and watch the shower scene w/o getting thrown out. He/she can have all the female t & a for a lifetime. In addition, as all you men often tell women...that women can get IT much easier than they can. Now he/she has increased his/her odds of getting some? Idiot or mastermind? Think about it.

Seriously I commend her for going through all the public ridicule that most folks who have this type of surgery do NOT have to go through. I watched a 20/20 special on transgender children - I think everyone should have watched it. It really shed light on the situation and all that transgender people go through.
My stand on it is (1)To each his own & (2) I do not feel he should have been fired for it. His sexuality had no effect on how the job was being done prior to the public finding out.
Also the person who leaked his story at the time this all came about should be fired. It was discussed in a private manner and that person had no business calling the media prior to him making the announcement. That was out of personal revenge.
Theres my opinion.

Personal revenge is what makes the world go round. LMAO. While things that happen in peoples homes should remain private, this is a public figure
and
this is just plain weird, and it didn't happen in his home. The whole situation makes Florida and Lagro look bad, not that it could look much worse anyway, but come on...This
man

All the hormones, knives and best wishes in the world will never change that simple fact IMO.
EDIT: Thought this gent had something to do with Tampa. Changed it to Largo.

YES, To each his or her own, BUT, NOW I say BUT, he is supposed to be an example, or figure head for the communities in which he/she (IT) is involved in. I dont know about you but that just isnt right for a person in that profession to do.
Thats like putting a pedafile in the classroom as a teachers aid.
He/ She should have been TERMINATED, and not allowed back into the system period. Hows that gonna look when a trip to washington comes into play??? we are gonna look like Vermont with their cival union crap. Then everyone will definately take things seriosly from Fl.

Ok Don I'm a bit lost here. Can you please explain how changing sexes and pedifiles are related? He/She is still a person like everyone else. He/She didn't feel like the outside matched the inside feelings. Would it have been better to have lived life a lie? Seems to me he/she is doomed either way. Stay the same sex and be considered a liar, change sexes and take the ridicule of others that are scared. IMO if he/she can do the job then sex or sex change shouldn't matter.

I am not sure I understand what you are saying there where I highlighted it.
He never dressed that way at work or during anything related to work. Not sure what the relevancy is there.
Not sure how she makes Tampa look bad either since she has nothing to do with Tampa? Let alone how she makes the state look bad. The state made themselves look bad when they fired some one based off sexuality vs job performance. Everyone that worked with Steve stated what a great job he did as city manager. So who made the state look bad other than the state?
The whole point I was making was that sexuality has nothing to do with how the job was being performed.
Morally I do not agree with it but who am I to judge. Like I said the 20/20 episode on transgender people was very enlighting. Have you ever seen anything pertaining to a transgender 6yr old? Would it be sick if a 12yr old child wanted to do this after living all those years feeling they don't belong in their own body.
I guess I don't understand why everyone is getting so bent out of shape about this. Seriously does her choice to become a woman affect any of you personally? NO it dosen't...I do not even feel bad for her former wife, she knew he felt this way for a long time.
I am not saying here that no one is entitled to an opinion either....
Dyno - I see where you are coming from, really I do. Comparison to a pedafile as a teachers aid in the classroom is a completely different situation. Genetic defect vs sexual predator.
I guess I see this all so differently than anyone else because in high school there was a transgender male that went from male to female. The things people did to her were so mean and horrible, I am suprised she never committed suicide. Students wanted her out of honors classes because she was different not because she wasn't smart. Same thing here - get rid of him because he is different not because he couldn't do the job.
I knew I should have stayed out of this thread

I will admit, my comparison may have been a little over board, but it was a point that I was trying to make is all.
I do not feel that in any way should gender be a deciding factor in someones career. There are just as many well qualified women as there are men. That I will NOT disagree with.
I just feel that he is supposed to be an " example" for all citizens in the public. What he has done is very unstable in my opion. Thats all this is, is each persons opinion.
Heck, If this were thirty, or so years ago, He/She would have been burned at the cross like a witch.

I see what you're saying about being unstable. I'm not sure that his/her decision makes her unstable. On the contrary I think making such a decision, especially in as high profile position as he/she is in. I'd say that a major change like that, one that would be scene by the majority of the public as radical, makes him/her more stable in who they are inside.
I can't say that I agree w/ the change but I also can't say that it's my choice to tell someone what they should and shouldn't do for themselves. He/She and his/her decision to change gender does not affect my life directly. However, that change does affect their life directly and will allow them to live in peace w/ who they really feel like they are. But in addition to this change he/she is having to deal w/ alot of ppl poking fun, making jokes, trying to ruin a career.
Like lovinit said about the person in her HS making fun of the student. That was just w/in a small HS. I can't even imagine what Stanton is going through having the whole country know. Even worse all of the work that Stanton has spent his life working to achieve is being ridiculed and ppl are trying to toss a lifetime of achievement down the drain.
And maybe because this wouldn't have been accepted as easily 30 yrs ago is why it wasn't done then. Also, 30 yrs ago it would have been difficult for a woman to advance as far politically. Could be that he/she was biding his/her time until it would be more readily accepted.
Not sure about a lot of things. I can't imagine changing sexes. What I do know is that Steve Stanton has be thought of highly in the political realm. And that Steve Stanton and Susan Stanton are mentally the same ppl as far as those business accomplishments. I feel bad for him that he had to live his life as someone he wasn't to make the progress so he could actually live out his life the way he feels on the inside and finally be true to himself.

Fine w/ me if a cross dresser were at the park w/ my kids, my cousins, or any other child that is close to my heart. Cross dressers and gay ppl are not pedifiles. What does that question have to do w/ Stanton having a public position? Stanton is not a pedifile, nor is he a cross dresser anymore, he is transgendered and feels more like a woman.

Well, you are certainly rare. I got to see this first hand in rainbow central, Broward County with my daughter at the local park. People who are notoriously liberal had some of the nastiest things to say when a cross dressed male showed up, and everyone LEFT. Frankly, I was a little surprised.
I feel that anyone who could alter their body in this way can't be right in the head. Perhaps Y'alls lack of these items has clouded some views on this issue. I don't know.
Sometimes I
feel
like crap, I have never considered having an operation to physically change me into a pile of dung...I believe anyone who makes the conscious decision to undertake such a change is unsuitable for public office. Maybe I'm wrong and this
gentleman
will take office of president in 2008, and gas will go back to $1.00.
Make no mistake, this is a cross dressed man any way you look at it. He is no more a woman than an unlucky guy who gets his junk caught in a combine or Lorianna Bobbitt's ex husband, or if I smeared my self in feces and pretended I was a pile of cow poop.

I think that dude is a nut job along with anyone else who wants to get a gender change. They can try as hard as they want but will never be able to completely be a different gender. GOD made you the way you are, so if you dont like, take it up with the big man. I will never think its right for them to do that crap, and wont ever accept it. They are a bunch of freaks. I agree with Largo for firing him. They hired a man to do the job, and half way through the man wants to be woman. Too bad for him, take that crap and go elsewhere. Also QT, you know as well as I do that if he gets that position in Sarasota all those old people will go nuts. His best bet would have been to resign, go get his bits and pieces removed then move somewhere that he was not known. I am sick of people saying we need to accept everyone for who they are. I dont have to accept anyone if I dont want to. Alright I am done.

wow..some people..so ignorant!!
.....I'll leave it at that.....
but i do think it would be very odd when i go into the bathroom unzip and start the process, and WTF!!! where did it go? o wait....thats right....i don't have one anymore
but seriously...Steve Stanton was city manager for LARGO..absolutely nothing to do with Tampa..In his career he has accomplished many things for that city and his co*k status should not determine his ability to perform his job...he did great for twenty years, he felt all along that he was a woman, now he kind of is one? so i don't think his ability to perform(at the workplace
) will change..he should have sued the city for discrimination, or wrongful termination..?it seems he would have had a case
and gays and transgenders being put in the same category as pedOphiles, is just retarded
and IT being a public figure and rolemodel and all......IT is sending the message...do what you feel like doing regardless of how others will judge you

I see it like this, yes, there are "medical" conditions whereas a child is born neither male or female, based upon the medical facts and medical team will make the determination if the child is male or female, and sometimes they get it wrong.
This is not the case with this person, this person made a choice to bring a child into this world, who is now 13 years old. This person must now explain to his son that he is no longer a man, but a woman. A 13 year old son is at a very critical point in their life, and I am sorry, to do this is selffish. He made a choice to be married, he made a choice to have a child, therefore, you are a parent first. I really feel for this poor kid, and the wife of this man. It would be like you were living a lie!
On top of all that, this man made a choice to get into public office. That is a choice, a choice that must be made with alot of forethought. I for one had been approached to run for city commissioner, and after long thought declined. Why cause I realize the sacrafices that come with a political life. For example, say one day I am at Publix and I buy a few cases of beer for my camping trip, well if I am in political office, I better not.
Life is all about choices, and we suffer the consequences of the choices we made. He made these choices, and if you ask me he is a very self centered person, for not putting his family first. It's one thing if you are single and have no children, that's a choice you made, but if you made the CHOICE to be FAMILY MAN, then be it. Some friggin therapist probably told this guy, now you must follow what makes you happy. No, you must follow the responsibilites of being a role model, a parent, and a father to your son. You don't ruin this child's childhood with this stuff.

your idea of being a role model is sitting back and putting everyone else first?
F@#K that! who cares where you work, how many wives or kids you have...if your not happy , you need to do something about it..bottom line...
and as for the beer issue....have you ever seen a video clip of our o so great president drunk? come on now
