All Atv owners should read! Important Atv insurance info!

****5-7-07 UPDATE, JUST GOT MY BILL FROM STATE FARM, IT SEEMS THEY MADE A MISTAKE, MY PREMIUM IS NOT $99.00, IT'S ACTUALLY $348.00, HOWEVER, MY ORIGINAL ADVISE REMAINS THE SAME, INSURE YOUR BIKES!**
Hello all, ****READ MY ADDITIONAL POST, (SEVERAL POSTS DOWN) ABOUT SPORT QUADS****
Just thought I would share some important info. I just bought a new Can-Am outlander Max, a $9,000.00 ATV. Any idea how much it cost me to insure it with full coverage?
Only $99.00 a year with my local state farm agent! If you own an atv, you really should consider getting insurance! I was quoted 325.00 from Geico and Progressive (you can get a quote online). But I currently have state farm and only paid $99.00 with them.
This coverage include a $250.00 deductible if lost, stolen, damaged, vandalized, etc.. (EVEN HURRICANE DAMAGE) and $20,000 if you hit someone and $25,000 for property damage. The point is that many of you may not realize how inexpensive it is to insure your expensive atv's. Think about how much are expensive toys cost and then think about what a small price to pay for this valuable coverage and peace of mind.
That's it, that's my 2 cents. I am not an insurance salesmen, I just thought all of you should be informed.
Have fun, stay safe.

I know there are others out there, but a big name like State Farm seems good to me,,,,especially at that price.

State Farm does provide cheap insurance, however, the rate depends on the age of the quad and what the price was new (they will ask for the value of the quad - tell them what it was new or you may find yourself under-insured. State Farm will stand firm if they determine you under-insured your loss). I have all of my quads insured with State Farm. The rates do vary considerably. However, it is easy peace-of-mind. I had a total loss on my 2003 Waverunner this past summer and they paid full insured amount. My agent told me they do the same thing with quads.

they must have typed something in wrong at the local place. my quote was the same from both places. we pay more than that though because of age.

I have Progressive also. They insure my trucks, street bike & ATV. I pay $274 a years for my 2004 TRX450R. The reason it is so high is I pay for extra coverage to cover some of the aftermarket parts. For that price I'm covered for the valve of the quad, plus $5000 to cover some of the aftermarket parts.

Progressive doesn't cover tires for some reason. They will cover the rims though.

I just called progressive and they have told me that they will not insure my quad for the cost to replace. They will only cover it based on the NADA value of a used bike. I'm up for renewal soon. Need a company that will insure the bike for what I've put into it. Let me know if there's a company that will do this. Thanks.

Statefarm has my KFX700 as well. I was more concerned about theft. Some Crack Monkeys made at run at it one night and were scared off.

Sorry guys, forgot to mention. Sport ATV's are going to be more expensive to insure. They figure that utility atv's are used for trail riding and sport ATV's are used for hotdogging (what else would you use them for?)
Type of bike, age of rider, how many and age of riders, previous accidents, etc...
All these things will factor into the price. I do remember when I was getting my quote that Progressive did cover some of the upgrades (I think it was 1,000 worth)
I saw that someone posted that they would only give you NADA value. In my book, that's better than nothing! The point is, if the coverage is reasonable, spend the extra $ and insure it!

I insured my Outlander 800 max ltd with progressive and a week later , 5 hours on it only, I squashed the front section of the frame. Cost me $149.00 a year for coverage and I got a brand new frame, and a few other parts. F----ing shocks and springs are crap. I had them install the one piece stiffer springs in place of the sissy ones that came with it. It cost me $250 deductable and another $120 for the new springs. Parts and install.

I first approached State Farm to insure my quads in 2004 and they wrote me a policy for $100 a year. One month later they came back and cancelled the policy, said they could not insure it properly and made a mistake with the policy?
I have had 3 different homes with State Farm and they have always taken care of me, but for some reason they bombed out on the ATV's. I now use Markel American ATV insurance: atv-line.com
