My wife doesn't ride. She hate bugs dirt and the woods in general. She sent me an e-mail this morning. Here is what she wrote.

The more I read about that accident, the more pissed off I get.  Why don't you get everyone on your atv sites to send Jess Santamaria an email about opening a park.  I sent him a letter just to vent.  Here's a copy of it:

Dear Mr. Santamaria,

Just over a month ago, Palm Beach County opted out of the state law that allowed ATV's on unpaved roadways.  You were in favor of opting out.  Now this past weekend there was the death of a 21 year old at the Underhill farm due to a dirt bike accident.  In the article, Debbie Lee (the mother of the victim) stated, "If the people really want these events, then why don't they come together and find a way to make it happen legally and make sure everyone's safe?".

My question is how do ATV/Dirt Bike riders find a way to do this legally when everyone seems to be so much against this sport?  Why can't the county make a plan to have a park on Mecca Farms?  Accidents and deaths will keep occurring as long as these riders do not have a safe/regulated place to go to.  Have you ever heard of the Croom Motorcycle area?  It is state property that is dedicated to the needs of off-highway motorcycle and ATV riders.  Our tax dollars were already wasted when Mecca Farms was purchased for Scripps.  At least we can make some of the money back if a park was set up there and a fee is charged.  We have an equestrian community dedicated only to equestrians.  Why should off-highway motorcycles and ATV riders be any different?  Horse riding can be just as deadly as ATV's and dirt bikes.

You were elected as a commissioner for the western communities.  There are a lot of people out here who would like some place legal to ride in Palm Beach County.

A response would be greatly appreciated on how to make a commitment to the ATV/dirt bike riders that want a legal place to ride.

Sincerely,

One letter from one person will not get a response.....1000 letters from 1000 people might.....i bet 90% of the people that live out in the acreage and Loxahatchee would rather have ATVs than more houses on Mecca....it could be an extension of Corbett... is that Corbett next door?......I know everyone that hunts out there would sign a petition as well as most of the owners of land that are already bitching about the possibility of a houseing development there. Anyone want to get a Petition together... now that would get some attention

I was thinking that same thing while I was posting something elsewhere. Perhaps EVERYONE in south florida should print and mail that letter.

Great letter! Kudos to your wife for taking the time to say something. She is a great example for us all.

Good letter.  Post his response.

My wife told me that she never got a reply from the last e-mail she sent him. We will see if he responds this time.
