Latest update from FWC web.

FWC ADDRESSES ORV RIDING AREAS IN SOUTH FLORIDA

February 1, 2005
Contact: Willie Puz (772) 215-9459

Hunting season has come to an end and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) South Region wants off-road vehicle (ORV) riders to be aware of vehicle restrictions on Wildlife Management Areas (WMA).

Though the use of ORVs for hunting on certain WMAs is allowed, all vehicles are prohibited from the end of the established duck and coot season (Jan. 31, 2005) through April 30, 2005, except on named or numbered roads or levees. In addition, no motor vehicles shall be operated on any part of the WMA designated as “closed” or “closed to public access.” This includes the interior portions of Holey Land and Rotenberger WMAs.

ORV riding is permitted on named and numbered roads and on certain levees and in the Everglades WMA Area 3A. Florida traffic laws relating to vehicles and vehicle operators apply, i.e. speed limits as posted (25 m.p.h. if not); no reckless driving; no driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The FWC encourages everyone to enjoy their time on their ORV in a safe a courteous manner, to be able to return to ride another day. FWC officers will patrol these areas to enforce the traffic rules as needed.

For more information regarding vehicle use in any of the FWC WMAs, go to WildFlorida.org/hunting/ and look under the “Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Regulations and Maps” heading. For a hardcopy of the WMA regulations, contact the South Region office at (561

I'm not thinking Scottsmore is included....just last weekend Muddy Waters ATV club held a clean up there and a representative for the land owner donated $100 for the dumping of the trash.  Doesn't sound like it's closed down.....sure would hate THAT!
