help with jetting

alrite, i put sort of a snorkel intake on my golfcart to get the filter out from all the dirt and warm air under the seet but i cant seem to find any jetting that will alow it to run good over 6000 rpm wich was less than 1/4 throtal(without snorkel it takes more throtal to get 6000 rpms), i tryed moving the clip up with a 270, 280, an290, and tryed the 290,280,and 270 with the clip in stock position, and i tryed the air feul screw to. nothing seems to make it run good unless the filter is reel close to the carb
rite now im runing a 280 with the clip moved up one and the intake is just an elbow and then the filter and it runs prety good, it pops evry now and then if you push it over 8500 rpms, but redling is 7000, so im not to concerned with that, but it wont run with any jeting with the snorkel, the snorkel is only about a foot and a half tall with an elbow and then the filter, i dont see why it wont run with it...
its a 500cc twin cylender 2 stroke with no reeds, for those who havent seen it in the photogalery yet.

the air filter needs to be somewhat close to the carb. it makes low pressure in the carb and engine and that pulls air into the carb, but if there is too much space to fill, it wont work right. you need something like a airbox and then a snorkel. yuo could possibly find one from a old quad or somethin.

yea, im tryin to rejet my brothers xr50 right now and i have read like 5 things about it from bbr, tbr, and so on and it said that the air filter has to be sometwhat close to the carb so it can pressureize again before it rotates again or something like that. this jetting crap is complicated or either im just missing something. i got it running alot better but the xr still needs some fine tuning. let me know if this helps.
