The only problem you'll have is getting a straight answer out of any of the ONF employees or volunteers.

You are riding at your own risk. It is not our responsibility to tell you what is safe. The only age requirement is if you take the ATV Safety Institute RiderCourse, you can only take it on an atv the size the manufacturer recommends. Under 11 yr is under 70cc, under 16 yrs is 90cc and smaller.

You couldn't have said it better. It IS NOT your responsibility to tell us what is safe, yet why all the new BS.

duroc825 - your statement regarding volunteers is not entirely correct, you will get a straight answer out of most of them.
The ONF is doing the age requirement, because they are trying to abide by the law. Yes, there are National so why do it, they live by their own laws? Yes, your right they don't have to, it is just easier for them, and now once you get trainned, to ride Croom or Tates Hell you won't have to be re-trainned, or any other state riding area. At least that is my understanding. The OHV advisory Committee or the ONF could change that tomorrow.
I believe you are all right - what right does the government have, what right does the government have to say I have to pay taxes?

Well we all know how moronic and dangerous the current law is. With the 15yr old kids on 90s and crap like that but will you get stopped if your under 16 on something bigger then a 90?

Yes, we all know how dangerous some of the kids are on the smaller machines. I agree 100%, and I believe there is legislation to change that law. I am not for sure about that. As far as the forest goes, it is just the training class that they are put on these machines. The USFS is just trying to comply by the law.
If I were you guys I would not complain a whole lot about this - if you read the current law, you will be glad that, that is all they are checking for.

The hole age limit idea really bites. My son just turned 15 and he is suppose to ride a ATV that no bigger than 90cc, here's the funny part he can drive a vehicle on the highway as long as it weights under 10,000 lbs. while I'm in the vehicle with him. Well it should not make a difference what size bike he rides as long as I'm with him. When he turns 16 he can drive anything with in reason, whats up?

The age engine size are recommendations only in the state of Florida for the end user. ONF is a Federal entity and as we have been told so many times, when they feel so, are subject to Federal not State juristiction.
So my 1987 Honda TRX125 has a very legible Fed Gov reg sticker that states any child under the age of 14 should not operate?
