I was checking out a website, trailsource.com, and they show only six legal places to ride in Florida.
Is this true?
Has anyone else checked out this website?

I don't want to seem like an a-hole or anything but the the truth is that Florida is not an ATV friendly state. I sold my 250r bought a harley and am loving life. I miss the off-road riding but to be honest with you most of my riding toward the end was street riding.

I say sell your quads get  a street bike and really start enjoying Florida.

Florida may not be atv friendly, but its even rougher on street bikes.  I think we have the #1 fatality rate in the USA for street bikes.  Too much traffic, but not too much to eliminate street bikes like some places in NY and Cali, and no one has any regard for street bikes on the road.  I'd rather ride my four-wheeler at the Holey Lands, Macks, and some of the other legal spots around here or risk getting caught by FWC than ride around on a street bike in [south] Florida.

Actualy the state has no authority on any private land and that includes FWC. So technicaly there is alot of untapped land for ATVing. We need more private land owners to open land for riding. They could make a fortune on charging day rates. I 'd pay to have a good day of riding and not be harassed. Cool Like C&R did off of 27 near Lake Placid. I met a land owner in my area the other day that said he was thinking of doing the same. Also I dont think River Ranch is on your list. We need to be like the NRA or the tree huggers and band together. Voters are powerful if we band together.

There is no denying that street bikes are dangerous. I took the MSF course before I started riding just to know what to look for. Personally I ride my bike as a hobby, it take it to school every now and then but I avoid rush hour, I don't ride at night always wear the right gear and ride 100% sober.

I have found that if you are alert and know what to look for you could cut down the risk conciderably.

And the way we used to ride (off-road) what not the safest either. We all wore gear but blasted around at 85 mph+ half the time.

The big advantage to me is that i could just pop the garage open and take a quick 15 mile ride without having to make a whole production out of it. I hated loading up the trailer and driving for 4 hours. As a kid I would just cross the street and ride, those were the days.

Hey Bumblemoose,
I know what you mean about having a place to ride across the street. Where I grew up I was less than 1/4 miles from miles of trails and about 30 acres of sandpits. Boy I miss it :-/  I got into street bike riding years back and did enjoy it and probably still would but for me it just aint the same riding on pavement, sitting at intersections, following smoking cars and dodging them when they slam on their brakes or pull out in front of you which will happen sooner or later. Granted it's tons of fun to take a long ride out in the middle of nowhere on a twisty winding road with fellow riders, go to the beach, and to take your girl on back but I could never seem to compare it to jumping, roosting, and just going down a long trail in the middle of the woods. I guess the ultimate would be to have a place to ride near you and a street bike to use on your off days. Glad to hear you are having fun on the Harley though and good to see you still visit the site Wink

Eric, I love ATVs over all motorsports. I still come here and other ATV forums several times a day. There is still nothing more exciting then the way a sport quad slides around turns and jumps but it is just now practical where I live.

Understand Bumblemoose, hopefully things will get better expecially in the Miami area. I have heard of a lot of closures down there. There is a group of riders near you on www.atvmiaxtreme.com but I know they often travel a ways sometimes to Ocala occasionally to ride. They have some local spots on the site though and often meet to do night rides and hang out. You should check out their site sometime to see if you know any of them? ttya later - eric Grin

Cheesy :)I do agree what are saying  we need  more  offroad  parks  a place  for atvs  and dirt bikes to ride.Well we need more atv trails parks in our area  sercet local riding areas.

About good way trail  planning  open up your own atv   backyard park  get some farm  land  or  something with lots of wooded acers  and have trees  boarder out  so just buy your own farm probtey  look in  lake city FL   classfields  or check out swapper  or amercainclassfield  you want sometime outside  gainesville  or lake city  or  to west of jacksonvile, there is plenty land  to buy  over near live oak FL and  all the other areas to south of live oak.But I have some neigborers there grandkids   they come from all way from tampa to ride on their backyard  10acers  atv trails and dirt bikes trails tracks. So thats  way you have open up your own sercet hidden places tracks where some people know or not.  so you don't have end up like others if get dissproved of their riding areas.i'm not againest atvs and dirtbikes and gokart i won't complain if they ride down on dirt  road i'm not that way   i'm only againest drug dealers   lol   so next time try open up you own riding areas they can't say  jack..

[smiley=king.gif]
Well they  need open up more  atv backyard  tracks
across state  FL here and  have their own rules of their park place and  atv clubs welcome in partyies  [smiley=drive.gif]and they should open more tracks  on your own land.Well thats my best  bet. [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif]  [smiley=Approve.gif][smiley=trophy1.gif]

thank you,

Anybody who opens up their land for riding MUST have liability insurance, I am not sure you all are taking that into account. Insurance policy would be for a minimum of $1,000,000.00, thats 6 zeros. Beleive me too, if you do this & you have insurance, you will still get sued by some losers parents who bought him a raptor and he is only 16 & gets hurt acting like an idiot on YOUR property, even if he signs a release, then your insurance company drops you & thats is the end of all the fun. Oh yeah, I cant understand a single sentence in the previous post, is it just me? Is there a spell and punctuation checker on this forum?

I do think the largest problem is......the "Liability Insurance", it's all of the Lawyer's in this state suing everyone for just about any reason [smiley=Angry.gif] If we could only change the law's for that  [smiley=dunno.gif] maybe landowners would not be so afraid to let us ride.
For some reason when you sign a waver in the state of Florida it means NOTHING!! [smiley=banghead.gif] [smiley=angry2.gif] [smiley=angry2.gif]

Now take a State like Kentucky, the State just leased 7,000 more acres for off-road use in addition to what the already have  [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif]  Just so people can have a designated area to ride, and I'm sure the people riding have to pay a yearly fee of some sort to ride….. so in other words the off-road rider’s are leasing the land  [smiley=Wink.gif]

Bumblemoose, one of the main reasons we are all losing our atv priviledges is that careless owners/riders are "riding in the street". I have respect for my neighbors & dont blast up & down the road in front of their homes & that goes a long way in peoples minds. Sooner or later they call the cops & their goes the neighborhood, just because someone decided to ride an "off road only" atv on the street, especially a 250r, I used to own one so I know how loud they are. Good luck with your  new choice of rides, always wear your gear.  Street bikes are not my cup of tea since my mother was killed on one in 1973. Good luck on yours, I have seen the "Friday Night Riders" in Ft Lauderdale leaving the Port & heading toward Hwy 27. Those guys have a very short life expectancy. I say keep your quads & stand strong together & vote in the right people so we can enjoy our atv's. Sorry for the derail.

KFXhead, let me rephrase that because I get the impression that you think I am one of these guys blasting up and down the street.

When I said "I miss the off-road riding but to be honest with you most of my riding toward the end was street riding." I meant that dirt roads in homestead. I referred to them as street since a 2 horsepower moped could easily navigate the terrain. I have too much to loose to be riding a quad up and down the street. Even so, the MDPD started jacking people up and issuing tickets for riding on these dirt roads.

I bought a 450 Nighthawk so I could ride with Jeff instead of 2up (like I could keep up with his ZRX) anyway I signed up for the MSC and 1 week before the class something popped into my head and I said "I would rather ride in the woods" So we bought the ATV's and I sold my Bike and Class (got lucky there) I live in SE Florida and the traffic just SUCKS here  [smiley=angry2.gif] Too many riders down  [smiley=Cry.gif] The only decent time to ride around here is Sunday mornings  Wink We still ride the ZRX now and then, and Jeff does his runs but I worry untill he returns, even if he goes around the block Sad we do take it up to the N GA Mountains [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif] and you know what?
GEORGIA IS A ATV FRIENDLY STATE Now lets get with the program Florida! [smiley=banghead.gif]

The bottom line is I had the chance to ride legally on the road anywhere I want, But chose to ride off-road where ever I can find a place  Sad

Not to bust your chops, but when you ride on any kind of street, dirt or paved, if it has a name, it is ILLEGAL & not intended for OFF ROAD VEHICLES.

Awe DittoBabyGirl are you homesick? It took me years to get used to it down here. I had a sandpit bigger than the one in your pic next to my house in Massachsetts. Now I drive 1 hour to Ocala in search of some fun. Look at the bright side you can ride all year long without freezing your butt off. And besides the atvfl.com people are the best riders to hang with anywhere Grin

There are more than 6, but most of them have so many rules there is no point in even going... They restrict the fun, until it is gone!
