Navistar International Corporation announced today that it has suspended production of the Power StrokeŽ 6.4-liter diesel engine.  Ford has worked closely with Navistar and will take the necessary steps to resolve this issue. The company is continuing to build F-Series Super Duty trucks with the 6.4-liter diesel engine. We will provide an update on status when we have new information.

HOLY COW......any word on why Chuck?

It is not a quality issue of the engine. It is all boiling down to money, Ford and Navistar are trying to come to an agreement regarding outstanding/non paid warranty claims.  Navistar says our techs as a whole dont know what we are doing and Ford is refuting that with quality issues. That is the issue for the current law suit. until that is resolved Navistar has suspened production of the 6.4 temporarily

This doesnt read of something that will be resolved quickly.
The 6.0 issues must have been a major headache for both companies. Its my understanding that its the 07 and later emmissions regs that're really complicating these new motors with all the additional electronics needed to control emmissions.

I do feel sorry for the tech that has to service one . Open the hood on and you cant see the motor due to all the clutter of electronics , hoses, etc.

I'm a 3 time Dodge Cummins owner and have been happy with them ,but was anxious to see the  new Fords .

You couldn't pay me enough to be a tech on the 07+ fords powerstrokes.  my understanding is that anything more than minor motor work will require raising or removing the entire cab (i.e. a headgasket replacement) Huh

the 08+ do require cab off for almost anything other than simple repairs. i think it will be resolved quickly, either they will agree soon or ford may tap into its volvo brand and bring a reliable engine over, i wish they would do the rather. or offer cat or cummins(and please dont anyone say ford owns cummins, they dont)

WOW! i know you have to remove the front brace that holds the radiator/condensor to get the motor out on most of the late model f250's and f-350's but the whole cab?! thats crazy.

I heard that ford was going to develop a twin turbo diesel? that would be pretty sick.

Pulling the cab is not a big deal if you have a lift. Do you know how many thousands of truck have had body lifts installed? Same thing, only you lift it temporarily and higher.

a lot of the 6.0 powerstroke repairs require you to remove the cab.

I heard that the forest service was going to use Chevys to groom the new trail system.

They are soooo low to the ground that they are going to drag them throught the trails with a Ford to smooth out the whoops. Grin

That sucks! Undecided

I was trying to convince my dad into getting the '08 F-250 6.4L but he doesnt want to give up the Lighting, but I cant believe they have even more issues now with the new model.  But that twin turbo 6.4L has to haul some serious mail!
