I'm pretty sure everyone’s heard the news about baby "Bryan" the 28 day old baby kidnapped in Ft Myers several weeks ago.  After several weeks listening to the news about this case I asked myself how come they haven't comb remote areas in Ft Myers. On other kidnappings and child abductions I have noticed law enforcement and volunteers combing through open and remote areas. Why not this one? According to the Ft Myers police, the child was kidnapped because the mother owed $1,700 to human smugglers.

In my opinion, these criminals are not going to let a baby ruin their lives and are capable of the unimaginable. I e-mailed the Ft Myers police department and offered to volunteer in a search / recovery if needed.  I told them I/ we will be willing to comb through remote areas in Lee county. According to Police the black 2 door Explorer was last seen heading east of I-75 on Alico, for those of you who know the area, there is nothing out there.
I got a reply back from them saying they will be calling me in the next few weeks.

If they do contact me, will anyone be willing to volunteer?

Please let me know.

Dennis

Yes on ATVs.  Lee County does not have vehicles that can access these remote areas. They don't even have a 4x4 truck.

This is a good idea Thrumud.  At the Quad Rally in May we should announce to Florida law enforcement agencies that the ATV community will step up at any time to help in search and rescue efforts as they may arise throughout the state.  Not only do I know this to be true but the press will eat it up.

I am in, would be more than happy to help out. Just remember folks that you might find something very disturbing (ie:the baby). Just wanted to put that warning out there, because it could scar someone who wasnt ready.

We nave offered NPPD the same deal we have a meeting scheduled with the chief of police next week to work out details and contacts for search and rescue, and natural disasters.

Thank you bigscrub....I was thinking about volunteering as well. However I do not think I would be ok if I found the baby! I really think that would screw with my head espically being a mom. You just hear volunteer to help find a baby - I did not even think about the end result could be bad.

Thats a great idea man, even though I most likely not be able to go.  I would ask for permission to carry a weapon because if they are unpredictable and armed chances are they will do anything if cornered.

Thats what concealed weapon permits are for.

Count me in, I will volunteer all over the state.

Good advice on advising anyone with a weak heart. Seeing a dead body is one thing; being a baby would be more haunting. This is for strong adults!!
Also, you have to keep in mind that you may encounter someone dangerous. If your not capable of handling problems like that, this may not be advisable for you either.

Good point. Let us know when we need to get down there and help out. We can pack up and be gone in a few hours.

Great support from all.  With all respect to under age riders, this is not a group ride or a chance to ride out in the woods. This will be a recovery effort. If we are called to volunteer, the police department will decide when and where. There are certain guide lines when doing a search in remote areas and its up to what the Police department says.
I will keep you guys up to date.
