Looking to buy an ATV. Don't really know what to get. Using it for hunting..not playing in the mud. Very budget minded.
Thinking of a 250 of some type.
Please help with suggestions...

I would go with a rancher, foreman, or rubicon they are all geared toward work with the lower gearing. If your looking for a 4X4 the smallest your going to findi sa 350/400.

Kawasaki Bayou would be a good 250 as would the Honda Recon. They are both 2WD though. For a 4WD I would go with Suzuki Eiger 400 or Yamaha Grizzly 350 4x4. You might want to consider getting a used quad.
whatever you decide to go with DO NOT get a chinese quad. They will not do well at hunting and will leave you stranded more than you want.

Do NOT get a chinese quad. You get what you pay for.
IMO I don't have a bayou but I really don't like them much. I would get a Honda Recon, easy to use and will last forever. Our 2004 Honda Recon ES has no problems yet and has been sunk many times. It has somewhere around 2000+ miles on it with 2 oil changes, 1 set of new brake shoes all around, and 2 new light bulbs. All regular maintenance stuff.

Chinese quads are gonna be the ones you see on the side of the road for $700-1500 all most all of them are junk. Usually have no brand name. Stick with big names like Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat, Polaris, BRP(Can-Am)Bombardier, even Kymco is good.

Since you say you're budget minded and wish to use it for hunting, I would suggest you consider buying a used ATV.
You can probably find one on a site like this for a good price. Typically, you can tell people who take care of their ATV buy the aftermarket products they put on it, as well as the physical conditon it is in. Plus, you can find them already outfitted for hunting..(racks, camo, gun cases, etc) which will give you added value for your buck.
Stick with the big reputable names, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha..as they tend to hold up better than the rest.
Good luck.

you probably want to stick with yamaha for all your atv needs, widely known fact there the best
i acctuallu used to have a used bayou and there preety maintaince free and reliable, 4 stroke air cooled, and you can pick them up preety cheap. i had the 2wd 220cc, i think now they have a 250 2wd and the 300 4wd. not sure though. also if you got all your hunting gear loaded up and your in the woods reverse might come in handy. dont remember if the bayou had it or not. defiantly stay away from the no name brands
