I really need to find a new sport.. too little places to ride for the money you put into these machines. You put 10-15 grand into a car, you can drive it anywhere, you put 5-10 grand into an ATV.. well good luck if you can find 2 riding spots in all of florida that are good.

I am with you machine.  I have two quads that are cleaner than ones in the showrooms because there are no local places to ride.  Even croom in brooksville gets boring after a while.  haven't been out in months.

I went to go riding near Homestead Speedway yesterday, a LEO buddy of mine told me you can ride there, and just as i pulled in, FWC pulled in also, and i said i was under the impression it was legal to ride there and they told me its not..

They told me the HUMP is a legal riding area, that FWC and Water Management had a meeting and as far as Officer Wagoneer of FWC knows it is a legal riding spot..

I would say people need to start calling FWC, Water Management and Metro Police and ask them if this is true, and if they say it is, ask them to type you a little something, and sign there name to it, and fax it over your way.. Then when you go riding, just bring that paper with you and if any one stops you, show them the piece of paper, WHAT CAN THEY DO THEN?

I am sure going to start doing my research into it, and try to get a little notice from each of the above agencies..

But i am going to go down that way in a few weekends just in the truck to check it out.. Bring some fishing poles, so if someone says anything we just say we're parking there to fish the canal across Card Sound Road..

Take care and safe riding,

Tony

I keep reading these posts over the years and see that many folks have difficulty determining what is and what is not a legal riding area. After much thought and study, I've developed a test that anyone with 1/2 a brain can use to determine whether or not a place is legal for riding. Here goes!!!!

Legal Areas - 1. State or Federal owned land designated for ATV use with proper permitting as required; 2. Property you own in areas (municipalities, counties, etc.) that permit riding; and 3. Private property which the owner has given you express permission to ride upon, preferably in writing.

Illegal Areas - EVERYTHING ELSE. END OF STORY. NOT OPEN FOR INTERPRETATION, DISCUSSION OR ARGUE.

Apply this 100% correct and fool-proof test to your riding area determinations. If you do, you can't go wrong.   Wink

yfz450kid ,

I was in a green dodge ram 1500 towing a trailer, about 2 minutes after i pulled down the road behind the speedway, a FWC truck pulled in also.. He stopped right off Palm Drive or whatever it is, and was talking to 2 guys in a Bronco and then pulled up to me and my buddies.. He didnt say its illegal cuz its hunting season, he told me the property is owned by City of Homestead and you are not allowed to ride there AT ALL..

Like i said he told me the HUMP is legal, but i have heard different, and was told u get arrested if caught riding there and your bikes confiscated..I value the rest of my life and my bikes, rather then getting arrested for sumthin SO STUPID, because some FWC officer lied to me, and told me its legal.. If i did ride there and got arrested, i would sue that FWC officer for entrapment..

Guess i will just have to start towing my bikes to Holeylands, L-Cross and Underhill.. It will be worth the hour ride to the north, no one will say a DAMN thing, and its legal up there..

I have riden The Hump for years! Hinse my screen name....

My Family and I were out there on Sunday all day. (Black dodge by fire pit and a bunch of little kids playen in the mud.

It all depends on the officer you speak to as to what is  and  is not legal. Sad... But hey it is Dade County would you expect anything less?

I sure as hell would not risk my $7000 ATV along with my truck if the officers cant ALL get there sh*t str8..

They all say sumthin different, that is pretty sad.. If it is Water Management property, i highly doubt its legal.. They took away Mack's Fish Camp a few years back, cuz of some idiot on a banshee..

My bikes are not snorkeled so don't feel bad. I have 27-12-12 on one bike, but after that bikes behavior on Sunday I might put the tires on my other bike. My bike on Sunday was acting like a puss and maken me real mad. I did not like that it made me dig it out!

You have seen the big Blue Ford Monster Truck out there?...
That is ours also. I am sure I know you if I saw you.

Are you going to L-Cross the 17-19?

6 weeks... My goodness what did you do?

By the time you can ride again it will be nothing but dust and peanut butter to ride in. Make sure you bring a rope/winch/ or something along those lines. You never know out there. One minute all is fine and looks fine next thing you know you are stuck almost over your tires.

What are you going to do to the Bronco?

See why its soooo important to be involved and show up when the OHV Meeting are held in your County....

AGAIN, for all of you that have doubts and have not been informed of the new law change effective Oct 2006,

MOTOR VEHICLES Chapter 316
STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL

316.2123 Operation of an ATV on certain roadways.--

(1) The operation of an ATV, as defined in s. 317.0003, upon the public roads or streets of this state is prohibited, except that an ATV may be operated during the daytime on an unpaved roadway where the posted speed limit is less than 35 miles per hour by a licensed driver or by a minor under the supervision of a licensed driver. The operator must provide proof of ownership pursuant to chapter 317 upon request by a law enforcement officer.

(2) A county is exempt from this section if the governing body of the county, by majority vote, following a noticed public hearing, votes to exempt the county from this section.

I PERSONALLY SAT WITH THE AG. PATROL AND METRO DADE POLICE AND THIS LAW IS INDEED FACTUAL.

Again, you cant ride at night, road sides, streets, private property but any unpaved road under the speed limit and during daylight hours. Meaning you can ride in the Homestead Speedway along the unpaved roads, not the mud pit, not the grassy areas.......

DADE COUNTY IS NOT EXEMPT... So I suggest you print the Florida Statute and show the next cop that stops you if you are in your LEGAL RIGHTS to ride. (day time, within speed limit and in an unpaved road)

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CONTACT AG. PATROL Captain.  Its that simple!!!!!!!!

THanks
