my 2006 yfz is not shifting into 4th when going around the track in high revs. in my garage i can use my hand a rock the bick back and fourth and get it to go into 4th and 5th. what is broke so i can order the parts and fix it? my suggestion is getting a hinson clutch basket and pressure plate and new plates and springs.

HELP PLEASE!

thanks eric.

and you see what is happening is you can shift in your garage but at high rpm's there is more force being aplied to the fork to hold that gear, then you want to shift it without letting up on the throttle (the opposing force) it will wear out the forks. Wink sorry to say but if thats the problem your going to be splitting the cases Lips Sealed

that sounds more like the problem. thanks.

that is not spliting the case down the middle but just the piece on the clutch side like we did on your red bike right?

no in order to replace them you must split the case. Cry if you contact TOY DOCTOR he is a great guy to deal with and he is affordable. he is also fast. he rebuilt my 05 and it runs stronger than ever. Cool PM him and ask.

I didn't even think you got that thing up to 4th gear. lol; Well your could change the tranny oil, I know you like to keep it original with the same oil in it. But common change it. lol;  But seriously it could be the shift forks or the dog legs on the gear or ther slot it slides into. Either way $$$$$$$$$$   Cry

1) Remove the shifter pedal.
2) Throw the rest of the YFZ out.
3) Buy a Honda 450r.
4) Replace the shifter pedal with your YFZ pedal.

That should fix the problem.

my yfz was doing the same thing, except it would feel like it was slipping when under load. started fine and ran hard nonetheless. well after installing a new clutch same problem. took it to my mechanic and......my worst nightmare. 2nd-3rd gear are shot, shift forks wore out and worst of all a chipped piece of 3rd gear got sucked up into the oil pump inpeller and chewed a deep gouge in the oil pump housing(which is the engine case). am getting the engine completely rebuilt with new engine cases and gears. by the way my engine was all stock with well over 100+ hours of track time.

hey 'gay-z' , if i remember correctly you bought a z400 and i bought my 2004 yfz.  mine has NEVER broke down.(well a bura-blue crap axle snapping does not count because that is what is expected when you buy crap) it was still running and woopin' @ss on the track 'till i decided to take it apart. now, your slow @ss z400 was... a pile! 2 frames, 2 swingarms and $$$ later you finally got a real bike(ltr450 which i think is bad@ass i might add). nonetheless we shall meet soon and begin our back and forth roosting when i get my old pile of crap back. welcome back to the scene old friend. this is how my old pile of crap still looks like:

if you want the real down to earth answer from me it is this, because it is what i did.  buy the alba exhaust that comes as a kit($450-header,pipe,jets w/needle,K&N w/billet intake) do the cam mod($0-$60-i did not have it done, but will now), get a rev box($100-cdi)and run race gas($6 gal.) with these simple 'bolt-on' mods, you will have more than enough power for now with little money. this is all i have done to my engine and i have raced my quad many times with decent results. if you just got that quad and are going to get into mx first buy some nerfbars and a kill switch, then do everything else. remember safety first, so you can ride again.

looks like im in the same boat as you with my 05. except mine will shift its just at high RPM in 4th and 5th it would feel like the chain is slipping on the sprocket. and then when i pulled into the pits couldnt get it out of 4th it just sat there idleing in 4th.  Lips Sealed
