It is the Bombing range that the Military uses for practice if you were where I think you were...I have never been in there but have been told about it..... Cool

The sign was the Bombing range and the water was Bass Lake.  Am I close?

I can neither confirm or deny the existance of these photos, but bomb range is a good guess, Bass lake I don't know.

That's the bombing range N.E. of Scrub. It's still an active bombing range. I wouldn't venture too far into it.

Yes it is still active like NPRVison said, like two years a go, they drop a couple of bombs out of the range, and were close to hit some hunters, I have heard those bombs several times, but since I knew about the one out of range, I try to stay away from there  [smiley=Confused.gif]

Yeah, I wouldn't venture to close during an active practice session, especially if they're Air force pilots. Go Navy.

My buddy wanted to go past this sign but Dreth air was not one of the things I felt Like dealing with, I was having a hard enough time staying off the pooper trooper radar. Easier to do in small groups.

Ya a bunch of us rode to one of the entrances at the range. The sign said "US Property, Dept of Navy" or something like that. I figured well if I get caught I believe that's a federal offense. Anywhere else I would have went in. So I continued on. FWIW, I think my friends GPS said it's 5 miles from the campsite.  -Mark

is this the stuff we want others to see?

dudes, if you get caught even walking in there it's a federal offense, and they don't mess around or let you off with a warning.  If they catch you in there, it's a trip to jail no matter what,,,,no questions asked.  And who knows what they would do with the quad.

I only know this because my dad wandered into the area hunting a while back.  My mother has never let him forget about having to drive from Orlando to go bail him out, then the trips to court to get it resolved,,,,plus he never got the .270 Winchester back.

my advice, stay away.

My friend lives about a 15imn drive from Big Scrub and says that he can hear the bombs go off once in a while.

Also have you ever been to that giant "Sinkhole" near the Big Scrub campgrounds? Well from what I have been told that was from a bomb that they "Miscalculated". Wouldn't wan't to be anywhere near that thing!! :-/

I wouldn't give much credence to the sinkhole/bomb theory,,,,ever seen the trees in that sinkhole? that would mean the bomb would have had to exploded about 20+ years ago by approximating the age of the trees.

For those of you concerned about my safety, much appreciated. I was Navy, Damage Control to be exact, And have seen the effects of explosive devices on the human body, not pretty. The picture of the Bombing Range sign was on the very edge of the range, However I did see evidence of bomb damage just past the signs w/my nocs. I personally would not enter the range at any time.1 it's a bombing range stupid. 2 its a bombing range stupid.
As for the sink, a bomb that big probably does not exist in the conventional form. Besides, the trees fall into the hole, if it was a blast the trees would have been blown outward. One last warning, stay out of the bombing range for your own good.
